Mission:
From the Ashes
Location: USS Phoenix, Main Bridge/Sickbay
Josh left the conference room after being dismissed and found Nidiri standing at the tactical cosole onthe bridge.
"You did some work with computer security while you were at Starfleet Headquarters, right," Josh asked as he stepped next to the brunette Trill. " The Captain just approved a new science project and I need someone to go through the program for these new nanites to check for any gaping holes in security."
"Yes, I spent six months working cyber security on Earth," Nidiri responded. "I can take a look at it right away."
"Excellent," Josh said as he sent the report on the nanites to Nidiri's PADD. "I'll catch up with you after my medical exam."
Nidiri smiled as she said, "You're finally giving in and letting the doctor check you out, eh?"
"You know full well that I haven't been avoiding my exam. It just hasn't been the highest item on my priorities list."
"I found time for my checkup; I don't see your problem," Nidiri retorted.
"If you've got so much free time, Lieutenant, I guess I'll need to give you more work," Josh replied with a smirk as he walked to the turbolift. "I'll see you in a while."
He entered the turbolift and ordered it to sickbay. A few moments later the lift stopped and he walked towards the room before him.
Josh walked through the doorway to find the doctor.
Elliago was just finished with Ensign Seven when he spotted the Security Chief walking in. With a friendly smile and an inviting gesture, he called the young officer over to him near an empty biobed.
"Welcome Lieutenant Commander Vincent. Glad you could make it. Please step here, it shall not take much of your time and you will feel more safe and secured after that. Now, would you prefer standard intrumentation examination, traditional Human testing or Deltan touch techniques? "
"Whichever one is the fastest, Doctor," Josh replied. He took a quick look around the room before adding, "You weren't exaggerating when you said this was a highly advanced sickbay. Your office is quite a bit fancier than mine."
"Well truth be told, your office in fact is the whole ship," Elliago said. "Now please lie down on this biobed, Lieutenant-Commander. "
Once the chief of security and tactical of the Phoenix complied, a complete and complex readout of biometric data appeared holographically at the head of the bed. Elliago's hand went straight to the images and moved them around to expand some, move others and alter a few while a series of various sounds also reported complementary information to the practiced chief medical officer like heart rythm, respiration flow and hearing acuity range. And just above the prone body of the young officer appeared a virtual image of his body which the doctor was able to open and peel with his hands anyway he chose to expose a muscle or an organ or even a bone and even extract it to examin it more closely while it was shown being fully active.
It was a bit eerie to look at for the uninitiated, but it was then over in barely a few minutes. All the ghostly, floating images and sounds disappeared.
"Thank you, Mister Vincent. I declare you fit for duty. But watch out for excess sugar levels in your diet. Nothing really to worry about health wise... at least not at your current biological age... but it might slightly slow down your reaction time if you indulge too much in it. Something I think you will not want in your line of profession. "
"That was interesting. I've never seen my body quite like that," Josh said as he rose from the biobed. "Thanks for the exam, Doctor, I'll keep your advice in mind."
Elliago smiled at him and sent him on his way as the sickbay door opened and his next patient came in.
