Taking Inventory

After concluding his business on the bridge, Lt. Commander Vincent made his way to the armory to meet with his assistant chief and master-at-arms. He entered the armory to find Nidiri and Jacob hard at work taking inventory. The two officers looked up as the door opened and Josh entered the room.

"Hi Commander," Chief Park said. "How is everything on the bridge?"

"Our tactical systems are looking pretty good," Josh replied. "How is our security equipment looking?"

Chief Park began to answer, but Nidiri interrupted him.

"The sensors are all online and working now," she stated. "And we've just finished inventory; all weapons are accounted for. We've got 75 Type One phasers, 250 Type Two phaser pistols, 100 Type Three phaser rifles, and 75 Type Three compression phaser rifles. That seems like an awful lot of firepower to me."

"It may seem like overkill, but we've got 1,000 crewmen and officers on this ship," Josh responded. "The Phoenix has over twice the crew of the Lotus, and as we'll soon be headed into the unknown, we need to be prepared to keep everyone safe against any threats that may arise."

"I suppose that makes sense," Nidiri said.

"I sure think so," Josh replied. "Now, if you've finished the inventory, I think it's time for some fun."

"Fun sounds good to me," Chief Park said. "I could go for some time at the phaser range."

"Well, I guess that's one way to relax, though I was thinking more along the lines of grabbing a drink in the Ember Lounge," Josh responded. "What do you think Nidiri?"

"It's been a while since I kicked your ass at a phaser range," she said with a smile. "Care to have a go at my record?"

"The phaser range it is," Josh replied.

The three officers each grabbed a Type-II Phaser and exited the armory, securing it as they left, and headed towards the turbolift.

"When we've finished at the range, I need you to write up a report with me," Josh said. "Senior staff is having a briefing in the morning to assess ship's readiness."

"Aye sir," Nidiri replied as she stepped onto the lift alongside the others.

A few minutes later, they walked into the phaser range, led by Lieutenant Kiels.

"Why don't we start at level 20," Nidiri said to the officers and the computer. The room suddenly went dark and the officers stepped into the circle of light in the center.

"You're up first, Chief," Josh stated.

Chief Park readied his phaser. "Begin."

DIscs of light began appearing and soaring around the room. The master-at-arms shot at each one, striking most of them dead on. When the lights stopped coming, Jacob lowered his phaser and turned to the other two.

"93 percent! Beat that," he said with a smile. The officers laughed together as Nidiri moved up to take her turn.
