After a long day on bridge duty on the Artemis, Scotty sat in his quarters, noticing he had a message.
Noticing who it was from, he opened it up, and started reading through the contents.
"Montgomery Scott III,
As an old friend from the 9th Fleet, I figured that I should let you know that Lieutenant Commander Hunt has passed on, due to an attack on the flagship of the fleet. Services will be in a week, and I hope that you can be there so that we can all catch up and celebrate his life.
Respectfully,
Captain Roberts"
Upon reading it, Scotty slumped down in his seat, realizing that he was going to have to leave the ship for a period of time. He started to remember all of the times he had served under Lieutenant Commander Hunt and Captain Roberts. He was a fine man. While Captain Kheren made the offer for people to leave who needed to, Scotty felt compelled to give him a reason.
After arriving on Starbase 10, Scotty packed a dress uniform, and took the next shuttle to DS9 to attend the funeral of a fellow shipmate. As soon as he arrived on DS9, the 9th Fleet's base of operations, he went to find Captain Roberts.
He found Captain Roberts sitting at the desk in the old Prefect's office in Ops, and rang the buzzer.
Upon hearing the buzzer, Captain Roberts opened the door, and offered Scotty a place to sit.
Scotty acknowledged the request by sitting down quietly, and looking Roberts in the eye.
"Sir, just wanted to say thank you for the message. John Hunt was a great man, and he will be sorely missed."
Captain Roberts nodded, and then Scotty had the opportunity to catch up with him. Later that evening, the service was held.
Lieutenant Commander Hunt was laid to rest in full honors, or at least what could be rendered at the station. Eventually, John Hunt would make it to his final resting place on Earth.
After sharing some drinks with some of his old friends, Scotty knew that it was finally time to sleep. However, little did he know that his new fleet was sealing up the Azimuth Horizon anomaly. During that time, the ship which he had left just a week before was destroyed.
The next morning, Scotty decided to take his leave of the old station of which he was a part of at one point to head back to Starbase 10.
