Born into a loving family, Talak Rahl grew up in the city of Marseille along the coast of the Mediterranean Sea. His father also grew up in France with his human mother after his Vulcan father had died at the Battle of Narendra III aboard the USS Enterprise-C when his father wasn’t even born. Both of Talak Rahl’s parents served in Starfleet, his mother as a helms officer and his father as an engineering officer, and so Talak had the opportunity to go to different worlds along with them when the missions weren’t dangerous. However, on 2383, Talak’s father was lost in action in a skirmish with rogue Klingon forces along the Neutral Zone. His mother then resigned her commission from Starfleet in order to stay with Talak’s aging grandmother back in France to help raise both Talak and his little sister Iris, who was only 6 at the time.
Following in his father’s footsteps, Talak graduated from Starfleet Academy at the age of 21 in 2394 and was commissioned as a junior Engineer aboard the aging Sabre-class frigate. During his time in service, Talak studied with zeal on the subject of cloak detection so that he could help the Federation have an edge over both the Romulans and Klingons, who both used cloaking technology to hide their ships. In 2399, Talak was transferred to Lotus Fleet on Starbase 10 and was then assigned as the Chief Engineer aboard the USS Umpqua, a Nova-class refit. While there, he had the opportunity to meet the famous Ambassadors Spock and Picard when the Umpqua went to Romulus to retrieve the two iconic figures. He also had the opportunity to test one of the first prototype cloak-detecting sensors for starships, which was a variant on the cloak detecting sensors on the Unity One Starbase. However, with only a week to test the sensors, Talak Rahl was then reassigned to the USS Alsea, a Prometheus-class starship, and though it was almost every engineer’s dream to work aboard such a vessel, Talak felt that his life’s work was still aboard the Umpqua. |
