Alexander Sheppard was born in New York City on August 9th, 2371. His father was a seasoned Starfleet Officer who had served for 15 years at the Academy in San Francisco. He wanted nothing more than to send his son to his Alma Mater. Although he excelled in school and was fascinated by science, Sheppard wanted to enter Starfleet as soon as he was able. This first opportunity came when he turned seventeen years old. A slick recruiter visited him in his last year of secondary school and offered him adventure, pride, and a sense of belonging to something bigger than himself… as an enlisted shuttle crewmember. Sheppard accepted the offer on the spot and was teething with excitement. His parents weren’t as thrilled… The next day, his father -a well connected Admiral- contacted the recruiter and forced the man to change his son’s enlisted MOS to Medical Technician, hoping that he would end up doing something more useful than fixing shuttle subsystems.
Sheppard then attended the Starfleet Technical Services Academy in 2388 where he showed tremendous skill and was promoted quickly. Before he took his first assignment he traveled back to earth for an extensive course in Klingon from the Federation Strategic Language Center. After completing this course he was assigned to the USS Rhea, an Intrepid Class Cruiser that had fought in the Dominion War. He served as their Chief Medical Technician for three years. During this assignment he gained a vast knowledge of applied medicine and became close to the Chief Medical Officer named Dr. Frederick O’Reilly. Seeing potential in Sheppard, he encouraged him to submit an application to the Academy. He was accepted to the class of 2396.
While at Starfleet Academy, Sheppard studied a variety of subjects including Biology, Chemistry, and Advanced Theoretical Physics. By the end of his Junior year he had decided to major in Biochemistry, a path that would lead him to apply to Starfleet Medical Academy. Before graduation he participated in the Kobayashi Maru simulation. It was during this test that he realized his true passion: to be Captain of his own vessel.Sheppard graduated with honors.
In the year between graduating from San Francisco and attending the Medical Academy he traveled to the planet Trill for a relaxing research assignment. There he met a young female Trill named Kira and the two fell in love. It is unclear what happened between them since 2396.
Sheppard attended Starfleet Medical Academy from 2397—2401 where he worked to become a physician and an exobiologist. During his time he participated in several biological and exochemical research projects (again on Trill). He has recently graduated with a Doctor of Medicine with a specialty in Exobiology.
As of the early 25th century Sheppard has applied to be the Chief Medical Officer aboard the USS Lotus, an Intrepid Class Starship serving as the flagship of the elite Starfleet division of Lotus Fleet.. |
