Dev is the latest host of a symbiont named Em. The symbiont Em is approximately 165 years old, with 4 prior hosts; 3 of them serving the Federation. Two of Em’s hosts where in Starfleet; back as far as the early 2300s and late 2300s and a third have served the as distinguished ambassador. Dev went through years of extensive of training to become a host for Em. DevEm views his life’s main purpose as a set of unique opportunities to experience new things within the galaxy.
Dev was joined with Em 20 years ago, becoming DevEm. For the most part, a joined Trill is known by the given name of the host followed by the name of the symbiont. This is not the case with Em and his hosts. Since Em’s first joining (host: LorEm) his names have been different. Em has combined the first name of the host Trill with his own. (See list of host below)
DevEm is appears to be approximately 40 Terran years old and served as a senior (trainer) at theSymbiosis Commission on Trill for 15 years. The personalities within DevEm called him to join Starfleet again on stardate 77582.1.
