Star Trek 2: The Wrath of Khan - interviews (for discussion)

Postby Jeff T » Sat Mar 26, 2022 9:35 pm

With our ongoing conversations about the multitude of problems, inconsistencies, and things just being simply wrong with Trek since 2009, I was watching this old interview from those involved with The Wrath of Khan and it was another reminder about the original Star Trek’s overall philosophy and approach and how it differs so fundamentally from the swill that has been dispensed in these Nu Trek incarnations. It wasn’t just nostalgia that was striking a chord, it was what was being stated about their approach, the characters, the storytelling, the optimism despite challenging circumstances, etc…

This was a time when they wanted to tell inspiring stories with admirable characters to have us think about us, life, the universe and especially the possibilties, show us the light at the end of the tunnel.

''Nick Meyer came in with a tremendous amount of love and energy for Star Trek, almost like a kid... Wow, I get to work in Star Trek!'' - Leonard Nimoy in this interview

Now is a time when they want to promote an agenda with self-inserts and tokens to preach us about what we should think about ourselves, life, the universe and the limitations, show us the darkness of a bottomless pit.

''I am not interested in doing Star Trek; I am interested in using it as a platform for our ideology.'' - Alex Kurtzman at Comicon 2020

That's why The Orville, the parody of Star Trek, is all that is left of it since 2005. This interview sure bring us back to what was.
Fleet XO - RP Director - Former Fleet Admiral, Operations CO, JAG and Ambassador - Former Captain of the USS Artemis and of the flagship USS Horizon - Current Captain of the USS Millennium

"In this galaxy, there is a mathematical probability of three million Earth-type planets. In all the universe, three million, million galaxies like this.
And in all of that... and perhaps more...
only one of each of us."

Dr Leonard H. McCoy
