And the Sovereign squeezes out a win by a nose with a 5-4 victory over the Klingon D7! What an exciting race!
Next up is the start of the Final Four!!!
The Federation Galaxy takes on the Federation Akira. I know this is a dreaded competition for a lot of our folks. Don't worry, together we can get through it!
Federation Galaxy
Specifications
Along with the Constitution-class, the Galaxy is one of the most famous and familiar starships in Federation history. The USS Enterprise NCC 1701-D made this ship so well-known as the Flagship of Starfleet. The 8-year run of the Enterprise-D, starting in 2363 and ending in its fateful destruction that saved the entire crew in 2371, showed the depth and capabilities of the Galaxy-class, not only in combat, but defense, diplomacy, and its ability to protect the civilian population on board with the saucer separation function. The impressive 42 decks were able to take on up to 15,000 people, which means it could evacuate entire civilian populations from any smaller planets that were nearing destruction. The armament was nothing to sneeze at either with 12 Type X phaser arrays and 2 Type III photon torpedo tubes (one fore, one aft).
Federation Akira
Specifications
This stalwart heavy cruiser seen twice in Lotus Fleet's RP by the name of the USS Tempest and the USS Spectre is a force to be reckoned with. Designed almost entirely for combat after so many ships were destroyed by the Borg at the Battle of Wolf 359, the Starship was thus seen prominently in fighting the Borg, and fairing much better, in the Battle of Sector 001. With 3 Type X phaser arrays and a massive 15 pulse-fire photon torpedo tubes, the Akira is destruction-incarnate in a compact frame. Its relative diminutive size when compared with other cruisers such as the Ambassador and Galaxy just give it more of an ability to maneuver and flank the enemy, while also sacrificing on defensive capabilities just slightly.

Re: Starship Smackdown!
Of course the Gal will win and with ease; and she deserves it. But I want the Akira to have at least my one vote, as a tribute to her original yet still true to form and especially exciting design. THIS is the ship the USS Defiant should have been!

I am with you Kheren. While I think a fight could go either way, I am pulling for the underdog in this one.

Re: Starship Smackdown!
This is a much less difficult decision for me than with the Klingon D7 and the Sovereign class....
Galaxy class
p.s. I agree Kheren, the Akira would have been a better choice over the Defiant design.
And by coincidence... look what was announced today in regards to a ship update: https://www.arcgames.com/en/games/star-trek-online/news/detail/9476673

Galaxy.
I love the Akira like a child, but the Galaxy has to take the cake.

"That is a Galaxy-class starship, we are no match for them!"
Just to point out that the galaxy class is an exploration vessel, science vessel, battleship, diplomatic ship, etc. The Akira is primarily a combat vessel, as sweet as it is. Galaxy class is rules, that is all.

Re: Starship Smackdown!
So for those of you that are simply voting Akira out of spite because you know the Galaxy would win, I suggest re-evaluating your assumptions.
For the rest of you voting Akira...I daresay that you're not Star Trek fans.
