We have yet another 8-2 result for the Federation Sovereign over the Federation Miranda!

We've hit another milestone in this competition where we go into ROUND THREE, the Elite 8, with 4 Federation ships remaining and 4 other ships. As luck would have it, there are no Fed vs Fed battles in this round!

For the first battle in this round, we have the Federation Galaxy against the dreaded Borg Cube!! This could be a nail-biter...

Federation Galaxy
Image
Specifications
Along with the Constitution-class, the Galaxy is one of the most famous and familiar starships in Federation history. The USS Enterprise NCC 1701-D made this ship so well-known as the Flagship of Starfleet. The 8-year run of the Enterprise-D, starting in 2363 and ending in its fateful destruction that saved the entire crew in 2371, showed the depth and capabilities of the Galaxy-class, not only in combat, but defense, diplomacy, and its ability to protect the civilian population on board with the saucer separation function. The impressive 42 decks were able to take on up to 15,000 people, which means it could evacuate entire civilian populations from any smaller planets that were nearing destruction. The armament was nothing to sneeze at either with 12 Type X phaser arrays and 2 Type III photon torpedo tubes (one fore, one aft).

Borg Cube
Image
Specifications
First encountered by the USS Enterprise-D in 2365, this Borg vessel is by far one of the biggest, most powerful, and most durable ship in the Galaxy, second only to its successor, the Borg Tactical Cube. Any direct combat with this behemoth will certainly require an armada of ships or some ingenious improvisation. It is equipped with phasers and a distinctive kinetic cutting beam to cut through shields and hull at the same time. The ship has redundancies that allow it to function even when 80% of its hull is damaged. It is able to travel through Transwarp conduits, which means it can get anywhere in the galaxy within days. 2 Borg cubes were destroyed in 2 different distinctive battles. The first in 2366 at Wolf 359 resulted in a catastrophic loss of Starfleet life and 39 of the 40 ships that were amassed to stop it. In 2373, dozens more ships were destroyed in the Battle of Sector 001.

No question, Galaxy class ftw.

Galaxy:
Largest Federation starship; class of the Flagship; long-range/duration explorer, battleship.  The design is just majestic; like a Boeing 747...it just flows.  All around well-balanced, multi-mission starship.  Revolutionary design when she was launched; upgradable.

Borg Cube:
One on one, tactically superior... unless of course you've got one of those fancy transphasic torpedoes that can blow up a cube with one shot or you happen to have technology that the Borg haven't seen before.  Transwarp, yes, but nothing that the Federation cannot invent or best (quantum slipstream).  Even Voyager took a transwarp coil and used it.  Basically there is nothing about the Cube that the Federation cannot eventually invent or best.  When the Borg run out of species that they can assimilate, they run out of new technology.  The Federation just keeps inventing and innovating.

I was hoping that the cube would avoid the galaxy a bit longer to take down some of the more...odd and loved ships. But it is time for the Galaxy to conquer the universe!

Hmm.... which vessel would I prefer to command or at least be commissioned on?

Well... that took less than a nanosecond to decide.

GALAXY

In terms of battles... I would approach this from a post-Voyager era battle with all of the advanced technology and know-how infused into this starship and her crew.

Wolf 359: 39 SF ships lost, over 11,000 lives lost.

Sector 001: over 20 SF ships lost, and although the cube had been damaged, it was still operational enough to continue on to orbit earth. had the enterprise E not arrived, the cube surely would have began to assimilate earth.

The collective probably has MILLIONS of cubes. imagine if they had bothered to send 2?...or 2000?

I hope everyone who has been voting based on solely a tactical perspective will re-evaluate that idea, because the cube will just win, hands down.

that being said, the borg cube is terrifying and efficient. aside from assimilated ships of other species, i can envision no other vessel for so evil an enemy.

But at the end of the day, it just doesnt feel like home.

+1 for Galaxy.

You just made the point that voting based on tactical evaluation alone would make this whole game meaningless; against any one ship, the Cube would end up on top, period.

Hence why I don't do it ;)

Now, the Gal is an E-ship, awe inspiring to younger generations of fans as the Connie has been for us first generation trekkers... and quite awe-inspiring for us too.

And I already stated in round 1 how the Cube, as awesome and beautifully staged as it was in Trek, to me still was a disappointment as it was not Trek original but directly borrowed (down to the Borg themselves) from another Sci-Fi franchise (Perry Rhodan's Bioposis). So to me, it could only have a chance to win over the Gal in a tactical comparison... which I do NOT consider at all in this present game, as stated above. Besides, even then, the Gal did defeat one  in a one on one confrontation (Best of Both Worlds part 2) because of what truly makes it (and the Federation) the better of the two; the people aboard her.

So... Gal it is.

Wow, another 8-2 outcome with the Federation Galaxy trouncing the Borg Cube, even without the help of Locutus!

Let's see if there will be a closer fight between the Romulan D'deridex and the Federation Defiant!

Romulan D'deridex
Image
Specifications
This kilometer-long Romulan behemoth was a staple of the Romulan fleet in the 24th century. First encountered by the USS Enterprise-D in 2364, it was the first ship seen by a Federation vessel in over 50 years. With a standard Romulan cloaking device, an armament of 6 Class 21 Disruptor cannons, and an impressive 12 photon torpedo tubes, this vessel was intimidating to any Federation adversary at the time. By 2409, the torpedoes had been upgraded to a plasma-enhanced fireball that would burn through ships' shields and attack the hull even when the ship has full shields.

Federation Defiant
Image
Specifications
The Defiant-class was a small, maneuverable fighter-type of escort that was designed to get in fast, do lots of damage, and get out even faster. With 4 rapid-fire phaser pulse cannons and 3 quantum torpedo tubes, this ship had an armament very impressive and deadly for its size. The original USS-Defiant also sports the only cloaking device ever to be allowed on a Federation vessel, making it as stealthy and deadly as any Klingon or Romulan ship.

I have to go with the Romulan D'deridex over the not so interesting Federation Defiant.

Not even counting its cloaking ability (which the original Defiant had too) one precise shot from this predatory Romulan ship and that little Defiant would be but a vaporized memory.

Besides... the design of the D'deridex is so much more interesting, inspiring and menacing than a ship that looks like it could be a car alarm key.

Little starwarshy overrated design vs one of the most original and impressive true-trek designs.

No contest.
