Exactly. The borg have proven they can be killed with melee weapons and lead based projectiles. They would have a harder time assimilating modern Texas than they would the Enterprise.

The Borg Cube strikes the Keldon down 11-2. Don't think that was much of a surprise. A likely closer match is next between the Federation Intrepid and the Romulan D'deridex!

Federation Intrepid
Image
Specifications
The perseverance of the Intrepid-class was demonstrated by the most famous iteration of the ship, the USS Voyager, when it was lost in the Delta Quadrant for almost 7 years. When compared to the other ships of its time, the size is not overly impressive, but was average. Its single-hull design was counter to many of the other explorer-cruisers of the era, such as the Ambassador and Galaxy. What made it stand out was its speed. Its normal cruising speed of Warp 8 was 2 full warp factors above the Galaxy, and its top rated velocity approached transwarp at a mind-blowing Warp 9.985. It had an above average armament, with 13 Type VIII phaser arrays and 5 photon torpedo tubes. This ship was not made for a long drawn out fight, and the Voyager often survived by running away, which it did well. However, not being Klingons, this was certainly an acceptable alternative to fighting.

Romulan D'deridex
Image
Specifications
This kilometer-long Romulan behemoth was a staple of the Romulan fleet in the 24th century. First encountered by the USS Enterprise-D in 2364, it was the first ship seen by a Federation vessel in over 50 years. With a standard Romulan cloaking device, an armament of 6 Class 21 Disruptor cannons, and an impressive 12 photon torpedo tubes, this vessel was intimidating to any Federation adversary at the time. By 2409, the torpedoes had been upgraded to a plasma-enhanced fireball that would burn through ships' shields and attack the hull even when the ship has full shields.

D'deridex only due to my burning hate of all things Voyager.

Though to be fair, I also loved the TNG Tomalak episodes. the D'deridex always seemed much larger than the Enterprise.

Intrepid. Her Captain loved coffee! :P Taking in consideration the way I started watching the series, the Intrepid was the first ship looking like I imagined a space craft should be.  Or near enough, anyways.

D'deridex. Size does matter. lol

Actually, although the Intrepid speed would impress even a gun&run Ferengi, the Romulan behemoth would lower the boom one on one with the Intrepid.

Not so much, in this case. If I remember correctly, it didn't fare very well in DS9. In my opinion, anything too big to perform the function it were meant to even with a cloak and superior armament are one big failure. Thinking "Message in a Bottle". I need to rewatch old favourites my memory is a bit sketchy.

I really like the Intrepid; medium-sized, highly maneuverable, highly advanced sensors, high warp speed; it's aesthetically pleasing; makes a great admiral's ship or diplomatic vessel.

That said, I really like the D'Deridex; ominous and powerful, yet grateful.  D'Deridex gets my vote. :)

TL;DR: Intrepid

Based purley on specs i would think that the D'deridex would win any 1-1 battle. And the design is certainly much more interesting than the flattened, single-hull Intrepid.

However, it is difficult to vote against the Intrepid, if I think of it as Voyager, since I did enjoy the show so much, and the punishment they took during the year of hell was orders of magnitude more than anything we've seen the D'deridex be able to take before it explodes, or more likely, runs away. Speaking of running away, the Intrepid is also faster, so it could overtake the D'deridex if it was the one on the run, or it could run away from the D'deridex and come back to fight another day.

Therefore, I voted for the Intrepid even though it looks like it's gonna be beaten :-(

The d'deridex may be big but its mostly empty space. how useful really are the top/bottom hull?

in one of william shatner's books, kirk and picard are in command of a defiant class that is fighting a d'deridex, it slips inside the null space, then rolls and breaks the dderidex apart.

i liked voyager, i dont see why it gets so much hate.

intrepid ftw.
