Re: Star Trek 3
As usual with an Abrams endeavor; news that are no news except that the worst fears they create will actually come true... as History has shown us.
My prediction: yes they will re-use Old Spock, Khan and the Klingons to continue their self-ripping off, will pay Shatner enough money to exploit him too, and use the Borg, Q and baby Picard so as to hijack TNG for their next exploitation of Trek. That is how much they lack inspiration, imagination, originality, quality and most of all, how much they know and understand truly nothing about Trek.
Orci and Kurtzman have dumbed down Star Trek, defaced the Transformers and brought the Spider-Man saga nearly dead in the water.
As long as they keep lording over Hollywood, all our beloved imaginary worlds are threatened or dead as far as movies go.

Re: Star Trek 3
Indeed I fear for Star Wars as well...though what Lucas did with the prequels was pretty awful. Indeed I have not seen Into Darkness nor do I intend to...nor will I see anything else which has both JJ Abrams and Star Trek attached to it. There are at least 10 directors (including Jonathan Frakes) would could have done a better job with Star Trek than Abrams has done. I don't understand the notion that he is good at his job...it boggles my mind.

Re: Star Trek 3
It's simple really; anything named Star Trek will bring in the money. A thousandfold if it is "official" Trek.
Case in point; Into Darkness is almost the same movie as the 2009 one... which is itself such an epic fail, not only as a Star TRek movie or even a sci-fi movie but as a plain movie that I can garantee you that, in 10 years, people will laugh at it just as today we laugh at PLan 9 From Outer Space.
I'm less fearful regarding Star Wars though; this is Abrams ' first and true love and he stated that, unlike Star Trek, he does understand it.
Moreover, overrated inane screewriters Orci and Kurtzman are not attached to it. They are as much if not more responsible for butchering Trek to a moronic rip-off than anyone else.
And there is no light for us Trekkies at the end of the tunnel yet.

Why is it that always there is an Enterprise involved when the timeline is messed with.

Not always. Too many times there was instead a Voyager...
