keep saucer separation, the saucer pet actually does a fair amount of damage. but more importantly it makes your ship easier to fly when its detached and increases your weapon power.
anti matter/metreon gas spread is ok if you have nothing else to slot in, but once you have something like impulse capacitance cell, a good rep console, leech or tachy, AMS console just doesnt stack up anymore in terms of dps output
