Awesome Whatevers & Doodads

Postby Storm Windfall » Thu May 08, 2014 3:21 pm

I don't know about you all, but I like news stuffs. Specially when it's fun stuffs. So, tonight, looking for a reason why my Google searches suddenly turned Russian instead of Afrikaans or English, I found this article about external hard drives which made me think that maybe we can share all those great magoochies we may find while travelling long distance on the internet. :P

....which also made me wish for a McGafter to make tiny URL's....

I found a somewhat disturbing bit of news in the new X-Y pair of nucleotides in the DNA code.

What an awesome find, BLZBUB!

"This type of discovery raises the normal fears associated with artificial life, but Dr. Romesberg assures the Times that the new base pair would not be able to survive in a different organism. "This could never infect something," he said. "

Now, where did I hear this before?

Pretty soon it will be the legs, then the body and then the head! Well, it's quite possible to transplant a brain with the spinal cord intact. Yeah even the nerves! How great will it be for those who can't walk, or want to live forever? I know some that will jump at the chance!

According to many articles and books since the mid 20th century, head transplants of rats, dogs and even monkeys have already been performed successfully, although the problem of reconnecting a spinal cord is not yet resolved satisfactorily. And so far, no Human has been known to undergo the procedure. The ethical and moral stands to this are still quite negative (not to mention emotional and even cultural reactions), despite the possible medical benefits (even if it leads to being a quadraplegic; more than a few would prefer to live as a quadraplegic rather than not at all... and it obvioulsy makes no difference to someone already quadraplegic and suffering from other severe problems like organ failure).

As Mr Spock is fond of saying: "There always are... possibilities."
Fleet XO - RP Director - Former Fleet Admiral, Operations CO, JAG and Ambassador - Former Captain of the USS Artemis and of the flagship USS Horizon - Current Captain of the USS Millennium

"In this galaxy, there is a mathematical probability of three million Earth-type planets. In all the universe, three million, million galaxies like this.
And in all of that... and perhaps more...
only one of each of us."

Perhaps Dr. Stephan Hawking's is following this technology very closely. I know I would be.
