But will be doing a more muted version of the banner (i.e. removing the Hex panels and the Defiant class) hoping that when the LF Command Staff decide on this they will allow a Sovereign Class ship to be placed on the banner or a Galaxy Class as both ships can do Exploration.

Sorry to disappoint you but, by definition, a banner has to be first and foremost what identifies us and distinguishes us from all the other Trek groups out there.
Thus, a primary element of our banner as far as ships goes is not "random Star Trek ship" or "of-course-it-is -the -Enterprise" but first and foremost our flagship (our unique Lotus class USS Horizon); then our starbase (the very rarely used capitol class starbase); and then, if any other ships are to be included, they would be the others RP ships; currently the USS Phoenix (Avenger class) which is an original 25th century STO design. If we ever come back in RP to an old design like the Defiant or Akira classes we had previously, or if a large majority of STO players in the fleet uses one particular ship class over any other, only then would such a ship be considered for display.
Although we are not a RP Fleet per se, nor just an STO Fleet, they are our main activities. Showing those unique ships we have and invest so much in instead of the Enterprise, Voyager or Defiant like every other fleet around does feature best our identity and creativity. It's what highlights us from the rest of the guilds out there. Therefore, it is agreed by the Admiralty that we should feature what makes us Lotus Fleet, not "just another Star Trek fan club."
These are among the main criterias in any official banner or logo we will put out, along with things like the official Lotus Fleet colors of purple, blue and white. Any graphic artist wishing to contribute his or her talents to the Fleet must abide by those basic criterias.
