OK

so i finally got the darn ship on my science captain. 
let me first say that this ship and the vesta were exactly the ships i was waiting for. ive always wanted a cannon build, science DPS debuffer.

kind of a niche build, not alot of ships suited for it.


i can say that this ship is great for a science captain, and pretty good for a tac captain. 

an engineer will be less effective in this ship, although access to commander level tac powers AND sci powers would be a boon to anyone.


the protonic cannons in the front are non removable, as we know, so in order to get the most out of this ship, it seems we are forced into a forward weapons ship. i'm ok with this, but others might not be,

the turn rate, unbuffed, seems acceptable to a cannon build, certainly better in tactical mode, and better than the crap i was flying before.


after playing with it, i find that its in tactical mode nearly all of the time. you lose subsystem targeting, and sensor analysis, but i think the dual heavy cannons i loaded make up for it.

i havent kitted it out, its in garbage gear right now with crappy BO powers, and a captain who is level 47, so its not even close to its potential, but i still feel this ship is going to be alot of fun for my science captain.


not planning on PvPing at all with this build, so im going to put the solanae set 4 on it, with protonic polaron weapons. going to leave a dual beam bank in front so i can use the subsystem targetting if im ever in science mode.


still havent decided if im going to use charged particle burst/photonic shocwave for aoe shield disable and kinetic damage with disable, or a good old grav well build.



so to answer your question from days ago, i tihnk its best for a sceince captain who wants to do more damage and have more versatility, and pretty good for a tactical who is tired of escorts.


definitely the most fun ive had in a real science ship though.

OK, so I got the Dyson ship today, and I was wondering what you would suggest for an all-forward build (since it has the cannon you cannot remove). Right now all I have is the cannon and an Advanced Fleet Plasma DBB Mk XII, and regular plasma beams for the rest.

I am planning to get the Borg cutting beam to stick on the back, which leaves 2 slots up front and 2 in back. I'd like to stick to Plasma for the energy due to the DBB, and Quantum for torpedoes (if any).

Also, is it worth it to get the 3 universal consoles that go with the secondary deflector?

On one of my romulan science officer I went with a cannon build. Plasma dual heavy cannons and a gravimetric torp launcher forward and all plasma turrets on the rear. I plan to go photonic polaron once my dyson rep is high enough.

I'm going for all the universal consoles I can get my hands on and see what happens with the full Solanae set and the Dyson merit set. I wanted Fleet cannons but there are none available in our starbase stores :(

So far I have the Borg assimilated one, the subspace jump thingy and the one from the Dyson merit set. Still more fragile than my Fleet Amby but it's sure fun to fly, even for one like me who does not like escort play.

I think I might put a photonic polaron build together on Jureth just to see what I can do with it. I'm already spec'd for escort and am Tier 5 in all reps except Nukara so I have access to most of the universal consoles.

Okay Battle Lion... here's a quest for you... (I hope that this request isn't too broad, but I wanted no preset limitations)

If I were to completely abandon the current ship for my Primary STO character (Science) and start from scratch with everything... (even respect of abilities) what would currently be the ultimate science ship, weapons, abilities, configurations, etc... to be most advantageous for missions, PvE, etc....

(Note: I do love beam weapons... but I'll sacrifice if needed)

well, as far as damage TYPE is concerned, it reallly doesnt matter too much, with the exception of plasma. you can get a moderate amount more DPS out of a pve plasma build due to embassy science consoles.

that being said, i have one dual beam bank, a torpedo, and a dual heavy cannon on the front of my dyson and it seems to work pretty well. i parsed my junk build with white gear and crap consoles, no rep powers at 4500 for ISE, and thats actually pretty good. 

only reason i put the DBB in front was, IF i am in science mode, i can use the subsystem targetting. 
rear i have 3 turrets (will replace one with KCB)

in order to get the 3 universal dyson consoles you will need to get the fed 3 pack, or the complete 9 pack of ships.

they certainly are neat, and the one that destabilizes shields seems pretty cool, but i dont think they are necessary for the ship. its ultimately up to you. the powers are useful but you are losing 3 console slots to use them. 

in the tuvok mission, i didnt find myself using all those powers, as there are already tons of buttons to press and you have to worry about ship posistioning so you have less time to look at your tray.

there are so many good consoles to have, the tachyokinetic converter, borg console, fleet neutronium, embassy consoles, plasmonic leech, zero point energy console, the protonic arsenal to boost proton damage, etc etc.

you just gotta decide now what your console layout is going to be and work towards taht goal. the 3 part console bonus is useful, just not for all builds.

there is no BEST build, it all comes down to the player.

questions FOR YOU::

what is your playstyle? dps? debuff? crowd control? healer?

what ships do you have access to?

are you open to buying a new ship?

are you open to changing your fundamental playstyle if what you usually do doesnt work for you anymore?

science builds are not as cut and dry as engineering or tactical. you can do loads of different stuff.

I have enough zen to buy any ship or set of ships.... so that is not a problem. I'd say DPS & Heal

I've uploaded some screen shots showing current Status, Skills, Traits and Stations to give you a basic idea of what I have and was doing.... along with Syntron's active traits.

Let me know if this is still not sufficient enough detail for recommendations.

If you have enough... feel free to offer any recommendations. There are no sacred cows.
