Re: J.J. Abrams' Chatter
Well...
First article is: Yay no jar jar Abrams for a series but also BOo! it's stalled because of him and his upcoming third STINO
Second article: pure BS if I ever read any

STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS OSCARS NOMINATION!
http://www.trektoday.com/content/2014/0 ... omination/
Not impressed. Gravity was awesome, Ironman to die for, the 2nd Hobbit movie chillingly effective and Lone Ranger...huh, no comment.

Re: J.J. Abrams' Chatter
Yeah... "Visual effects" because it certainly couldn't be on originality, or a well thought-out & presented story.
I thought that maybe the committee were adding a most lame reboot category or something... then I would understand a dubious award for the three stooges who put that sloppy mess together.

Re: J.J. Abrams' Chatter
Star Trek The Motion Picture which so many put down was nominated alone for no less than 4 oscars (art, music, effects and cinematography). One special effects nomination sounds more like lip service to Abrams bringing in the money. But it won't win because it is a futuristic scifi movie so everything looks easily prefabricated compared to more realistic-contemporary settings like Gravity and Iron Man 3. As for the Hobbit, the sheer beauty of the Middle Earth setting and the challenge of rendering a fantasy natural setting beleivable (as opposed to starship interiors) also pushes STINO 2 further down the list.
BTW, STINO 1 was the first and only film with Star Trek in the title that won an oscar... for make-up.
All cheer the revival of Star Trek with Revlon and Maybeline!

Re: J.J. Abrams' Chatter
That little statement of yours, Storm, already shows more intelligence than the entire STINO franchise
I ROFLOL when I read that Into darkness was "a financial and critical success"
A critical success? A genuine movie critic out there really praised a dumb action movie full of lense flares and standard special effects, essentially a rip-off of both TWOK and the first Abrams STINO in scenario, scenes, music and even actual shots and dialogs?
Now I understand why there never was a statue erected in hommage to a critic.

Re: J.J. Abrams' Chatter
Totally agree!
The article was somewhat of a challenge to endure.... then you look at the comments below it... people worshiping the stooges involved in that mess... sigh. I weep for the future!
Coincidentally, I just watched it (Into darkness) again last night on Epix with my wife and it was even more cheesy and absurd the second time around. Even she was like WTF????? throughout the movie. Lol
"Khhhhhaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan" oh.... so epic and original (especially the 3rd time around) oh.... roles reversals.... so clever.... LMAO now... and unfortunately, that is only the tip of monumental blunders throughout this monstrosity.
Whoever is involved and what ever they do on this next installment.... they should at least hire some knowledgeable consultants.... preferably for the actual science itself (which they apparently like to ignore) and hopefully others with more than just a passing understanding and knowledge of Star Trek.
I certainly won't be counting on that occurring though.
