I can help your ship build

It is illogical to go elsewhere for STO info.

replaced the one giving Borg bonus with one (blue quality) giving bonus to TAC team and replaced the protonic console with the fleet alloy one and the Solanae warp core with the fleet one I have, as you suggested.

Today I tested the build against a big bad Voth capital ship. Up 'till now, it almost always destroyed me before I could finish it off. This time, it did damage me almost down to 50% but I was not destroyed and I nailed it (and it's escorts). I was worried because removing the Solanae core removed the bonus metaphasic shielding, but that was neatly compensated by the pair or reverse shield polarity (II and III) BOFF abilities it usually cancelled. And yes, now that the 3 teams abilities do not cancel each other out, it makes a lot of difference (I have Eng team I &II, Sci team I and Tac Team I).

Your advice does pay off :)

glad to hear it sir!

RSP chaining goes wayyyyy back to the beginning of the game. its the reason RSP was nerfed so much. its still very effective though, especially now that theres a Doff that extends the time that RSP is active.

did you ever find out if you have a Technician on active space duty? if you do, you can get rid of him, as you are not using auxiliary to battery.

what are you power settings? i recommend 100W, 50S, 25E, 25A for pretty much everything, unless you start to die, then switch to 100Sheild.

theres a good working build that you can switch to now with very little effort.

mission replay will get you your aft phasers, your elite fleets can go up front with your Wide angle quantum.

notice the kinetic cutting beam - i know you dont have it yet, but until you do, just get another aft phaser array for free.

slight change to your warp core. the AMP modifier will help greatly.

your boff powers have been re aligned into a dragon build, which takes NO special doffs to make work, and is very resilient. i run this on my regent class. if you feel you are still a bit too squishy, replace DEM2 with RSP2.

every 15s you will be hitting an emergency power, which means you will have 100% uptime of both powers. your shields will be tough to drop with epts2 up ALL the time. and with TSS to back it up, you should be fine.

i recommend Trasnsfer Shield Strength over Sci team in this case, bc you will have lots of aux power to back it up.

when you can, upgrade to advanced, or elite phasers.

susbspace field modulator is free from a devidian mission, just DONT use it against voth.

zero point romulan console, you'll get to that when you can.

notice the new skill tree, should help alot with being able to kill things.

also take a look at the DESCRIPTION tab, as it contains info on what doffs would be best, and what power levels you should be at.

the dragon build is REALLY easy to make because it costs next to nothing. you wont need to worry about survivability because it has more than most builds, AND it will kill most things before running out of heals becomes a problem.

also, dont forget to use your CRUISER COMMAND of weapon efficiency!! the other command the dreadnought has is useless pretty much unless you want to tank the crystal. but i dont recommend that with the Gal X, i have had poor results with taking its hits.

Master BL, I require your sage advice. After semi-returning to STO, I find my standard Sovereign class woefully underpowered against the Voth.

Here's the link to my engie VA. : http://skillplanner.stoacademy.com/?build=niomoold2_0

Unfortunately, I'm at work, so I can't verrify every item. I am 100% sure on the weapons and most of the warp core, etc. The consoles, I don't recall, however. I know that my tacticals are two 20%+ to tetryon and one +% to photon torp damage.

And yes...I know my torpedoes need to be updated >.> I haven't gotten any drops for them and have been lazy about getting to the exchange XD

Oh, and I have no reputation bonuses. Like I said, I just came back, so I've been working on em. About to get Omega rep 1 I think.

Edit: Honestly, anyone probably can help me. I am sorta lost about where to get the more 'fancy' gear. The game really doesn't tell you. And no one is ever online! :( I am open to getting a higher tier ship, I just don't know which ship is good. I tried asking in general chat, but no one answered XD

well the good news is that the sov is a great ship.

its tankier than the regent, but doesnt do as much damage as a trade off.  i assume you want to stick with this ship and not use something different? if thats not the case, reply with what ship you want to switch to.

the good news is that end game elite content is fairly easy to tank, especially in a cruiser. so i think we will be able to get your deepz AND healz up.

ok so thers a few ways we can go about this. i recommend the aux to batt build for this tac starved cruiser.

BUT, you cant just dive into an A2B build, so i first recommend doing a dragon build while you grind up your three purple technician doffs (i'll get to that in a moment.)

ok so first, the dragon  build basics in case you havent read through the whole thread.

the dragon flagship build is as old as the game itself essentially, it provides a tough ship that deals a respectable amount of damage as well.

its essentially 2 copies of EPTS and EPTW. most people go with EPTS1 x2 and EPTW3 x2.

essentially, because of the way the global cooldowns work on the EPTx powers, you can alternate EPTS and EPTW every 15s, and have 100% uptime of both powers. pretty neat huh? and thats all there is to it.

so heres what i would do until you can A2B (almost there, hang on)

tac powers:
tac team, fire at will
fire at will

Eng powers:
epts1, eng team2, eptw3, dem3
epts1, rsp1, eptw3

sci powers:
hazard emitters, transfer shield strength

now about your weapons.

sorry to say but tetryon is pretty bad. its proc is not nearly as useful as the other damage types.
i recommend plasma, disruptor, antiproton, polaron in that order. the good news is that you can get rare AP beams for free as a mission reward so i would go with those. only problem is the matching tac consoles are going to be expensive. you can buy them with dil tho incase you have that coming out of your ears.

you are going to want to broadside, so you should have all beam arrays. not even kidding. when you get the kinetic cutting beam, slot that in. if you ever get the regent class, it will come with a wide angle quantum which is the only torp you should slot on a broadsider. so basicaly, you need 8 beam arrays for the time being.

as far as a gear set goes, if you decide to go with polarons, get the jem hadar set (for free!)., anything else, get the solanae set, also for free. those will hold you over until you get some serious fleet/rep gear.

dump that warp core, get a rare one off the exchange. you want one that gives extra power to weapons, so [S->W] is a good modifier. [EFF] is also something to look for. they are cheap, usually 150K or less.

replay the devidian mission and get the SUBSPACE FIELD MODULATOR. a great defensive boost, just dont use it against VOTH. eveyrone else is fine.

play the numbus missions and get hte NIMBUS PIRATE DISTRESS CALL device. you dont need to slot it, just keep it in your inventory. nice to have in case you get in trouble.

get rid of all those engineering consoles. youre going to want a neutronium alloy (get one from the fleet mine, with +trn) if you have the borg console from way back when it was a mission reward, slot that. if not, get another neutronium for a total of 2.

that should put you at 2 or 3 consoles so far. 2 neutroniums and the borg. no borg? get 2 sif generators to help your healing.

science consoles, get an embassy console (emitter array +pla -th mk xi) it will boost your shield heal  ( NOT REGEN RATE console)

it will also add the plasma proc to your weapons, or if you use plasma alreayd, add 9% damage to them. nice.

if you use polarons, get a flow cap console, +pla -th

if you have a field generator, slot that in sci, or get another embassy science console.

tactical consoles, 3x of the console taht boosts your ENERGY damage type. tac console meta game is boring. boost your energy damage only, or you are gimping yourself.

http://skillplanner.stoacademy.com/?build=niomotest_0

check out htat skill tree and gear layout.

as you gain new rep tiers, good upgrades are the consoles. borg, romulan, nukara consoles are must haves. so is the kinetic cutting beam. if you can afford a PLASMONIC LEECH (exchange) or a TACHYOKINETIC CONVERTER (lobi store), get those def.

ok, so start hanging out in B'tran nebula. the VA nebula and the regular lower ranked instance too. check your doff missions for the colonization chain of 7 missions. do those missions, some can be hard to find, just keep checking every day.

the last mission in that chain is repeatable, make sure you crit it. if you crit it, you get a purple technician. blues are ok, and will do until you get 3 purples.

once you have 3 technicians, *they need to be purple for it to work right*

slot them active duty space.

then swap your powers to this

TAC powers
Tac team, attack pattern beta
fire at will

Eng Powers:
eng team, aux to batt, eptw3, DEM3
epts1, aux to batt, RSP

Sci powers:
Haz emitters, science team

when ever you hit an aux to batt, your 3 technicians will reduce every BOFF power that is on cool down to global cool down levels, effecively doubling all your Boff powers. now you have 2 eptw3. 2 attack pattern beta. 2 fire at will.

its pretty much cheating lol. so much fun.

as for your other doffs, get a vucnak, he costs about 975K but he has a chance to clear all your debuffs when you hit an EPTx power. useful.

maybe a warp core engineer as well, so that you can hava a chance to gain massive power level boosts.

i recommend romulan plasma from the rep store for when you get serious.

as far as gear goes, get the romulan engines if they dont change them...bc they add 26.2 to your attack patterns skill. then get the 2 piece adapted maco to go with it, or regular maco if you have no plasmonic leech...or borg 2 peice for extra heals.

upgrade to a fleet core with AMP and [s->w] [eff] and some kind of capacitor.

AMP is a great modifier that gives you an extra 3.3% damage for each subsystem you ahve power 75 or more in.

which will be weapons, shields, and engines, so an extra 10% damage basically.

Aux to batt also drains your aux power and distributes it to all your other systems, so it makes you deal alot of damage, and boosts your shield regen rate, and speed. you just gotta get used to having no aux power.

lastly, i recommend key binding and macros when you start Aux2batting, as it will greatly increase your DPS.

i know thats alot, any questions?

work up to it, its not a race.

:)

Its like you're speaking a foreign language haha. But I get what you are saying. As for the Sovy, I honestly have NO idea if I am going to change ships or not. Last time I played, the Sovereign was the only top rank cruiser haha. Well sorta :P But yeah, now there are all those Fleet ships and I don't really get em lol. I figure they have to do with being in a fleet, so I'm waiting for us to get the top tier fleet ships (just in case i get buyers remorse or something). So if you have any advice, I'm all ears.

Ok next: No torps? That feels...wrong haha. But I can understand why. Gimme some time to figure out how to do what you suggest and I'll get on it XD

What about for ground gear? Or are you only a Ship Man?

Edit: Now that I've read everything over, I need some further instruction.

What is a Fleet mine? :\ Ive been to our DMine, but there were no consoles there :\

Well if you got credits to spare, get some fleet ship modules off the exchange and buy the excelsior refit
http://sto.gamepedia.com/Fleet_Advanced ... r_Retrofit
its a really great cruiser because it has a ltcmdr tac slot, and its light enough where you can do a single cannon/turret build on it, if thats your thing. you can still A2B it for more power too.

or you could wait until tier 4 shipyard which could take months for the sovvy refit. or you could buy the regent from the C store which is the same thing as the sovvy refit, but the 9 console, non fleet version. the regent comes with the coveted wide angle quantum torp, which is the only torp broadsiders should even consider, and its also an account unlock, unlike a character unlock like the fleet sovvy, so you can use the regent on any fed character.

i used to fly the excelsior on my tac guy, as a cannon build. it was fun. recently switched it to the avenger which is better though. the excelsior also lends itself well to a beam build. it will out damage the standard sovvy every time, no matter what.

anyway -  the fleet system has holdings. the starbase. the embassy. the spire. and the fleet dilithium mine. each of these places, as they rank up, offer fleet level gear, which is the best in the game. the fleet dilithium mine offers armor consoles and warp cores. i recommend checking them out. dont buy a warp core without talking to me lol, its so easy to buy the wrong one and it depends alot on your build. you can get this gear from NPCs loitering around our dil mine, provided there is adequate provisioning in the Dil Mine store.

the fleet neutronium armor, +trn is a great console for cruisers for obvious reasons. id say save up and get the mk 12 but if youre shy on dil and fledits, get the mk 11.

if you decide to go with polarons as your beam weapon, you'll need points in flow caps. which will allow you to justify the 22million price tag of the plasmonic leech, which is boosted by the flow caps skill. also the jem hadar set will boost your polaron damage by 10%.

the plasmonic leech is s universal console, which drains the targets power and adds it to yours. remember that [AMP] warp core? suddenly its really easy to keep your power levels above 75. thats an extra 10-13% damage all the time. plus it drains their power so their shields regen less, their dps goes down, they go slower.

if you decide to go with plasma (my favorite) your plasma damage will be buffed by however many plasma enfused sci consoles you have, as well as allow you to use the experimental romulan plasma beam array.

the experimental array does not drain weapon power when firing, which is awesome when you have all those beams to feed. that raises your dps., plus it has a 6% crit chance. oh and if you have the rom console it adds likr 7% to your plasma damage. plus the bonuses from the rom console itself. max dps pve builds use plasma for this reason. you can have 4 tac consoles boosting your damage, plus however many sci consoles, and one engineering console also boosting your plasma.

romulan plasma beam arrays from the rep store are also better than fleet plasma, if you can beleive that.
they have the plasma AND the disruptor debuff, plus 2 modifiers of your CHOICE.

ground gear is easy. basically, grind to T5 omega and get the maco/omega set lol.

the jem hadar set is free and will do unti lyou get the higher sets.
havent used the dyson sets yet but i bet those are good too.

unfortunatly, all end game is just a grind. the good news is once you hit T5 in a rep, you can make tokens and give them to your alts, so your alts will level in the reps TWICE AS FAST. so take heart.

That helps a lot :)

As for ground gear, I really was asking more about "is there a best kind of gun?" like auto rifle, sniper, assault cannon, etc. But I see *everyone* in the badass looking MACO gear from Omega. I have T1 Omega, should I invest in that grade of stuff for now, or just wait until I get higher ranked stuff?

Oh also, you suggest the Regent class. But what about the Odessy? Is the Ent F not the stronger ship anymore? haha

wait until you can get mk 12 gear. no sense in wasting resources or gimping yourself

the Tactical oddy is a ship that can do a fair amount of damage. it has a pet, 3 tac conoles, and can A2b really well.

that being said, it STILL only has a few tac slots. excelsior can still edge out a tac oddy if you build it right. so can the regent, as they both have the LTCMDR tac slot. i bought the regent just for the torpedo lol, but ended up using it on one of my throwaway fed alts. with just junk level white and green gear, and only a few rep bonuses, i was still taking SECOND PLACE in the crystaline catastrophe ELITE. its a pretty good ship in its own right.

Also, if you buy the Regent class, the Fleet Assault Cruiser Refit (aka FACR, aka Fleet Sovvy) will only cost you ONE FLEET SHIP MODULE. so if youre planning on getting that (the best fed cruiser for damage) its worth getting the regent. we wont have a tier 5 shipyard for a while though, so youd at least get alot of practice flying the slightly loewr powered version (Regent class).

its up to you.

for right now, if you have loads of credits, id say go with the excelsior. its fun to fly and will A2B really well.

or you can stick with your free sovvy.
