Here is the announcement:
Star Trek Online, the free-to-play MMORPG based on the beloved science-fiction franchise, is coming to PlayStation 4. For the first time ever, PlayStation 4 players will be able to explore new worlds as they create their own captain and take the helm of iconic ships based on the Star Trek franchise. Star Trek Online will launch in fall 2016 for PlayStation 4 and be available for free.

Note: It will launch on XBOX One too
Any thoughts on this announcement?
(side note: I have a PS4... so I may give this version a whirl when it arrives)
Re: Star Trek Online heading to gaming consoles too!!!
As i have openly stated in the STO forums....
BOO!
The only way this can help us and bolster STO is if we could cross-server play (or if we all played on a single server), which would not be of benefit because then the console gamers would whine about the "unfair advantage" that PC players have.

Might have solved my access problem if I had a game console... oh well...

At least a console push will help keep the game alive longer, and make it available in some way to players who are interested but don't necessarily have the pc gaming hardware to run it. Cross-platform has always been the pipe dream, but it is very hard to implement. The only game I've played that did it well was Portal 2 with its Steam / PS3 release. I guess we'll see what happens fairly soon...

Re: Star Trek Online heading to gaming consoles too!!!
Any update on if the platform crossover was a go? Not much of a betting man but if I were I would probably bet on No....either way my PC cant handle the game so I did start playing on my PS4 not to bad so far, not much is different in game play or feel except the ability to have more than one button at a time be able to link to certain attributes and abilities.....so far that is rectified with holding said button down to access a wheel of options, not as convenient as on a PC but for an experienced console gamer like myself is still pretty easy, does help that I played the game for a few years prior to this so I already know what I am doing and when I need to do it haha

Re: Star Trek Online heading to gaming consoles too!!!
Bringing back this earlier thread to respond.
I finally downloaded STO onto my PS4 yesterday. I figured that I'd give them a few months to work out the initial kinks adapting to this platform.
Took a while to complete the download too (~16.1 GB).
Even though I tied it to my other account, I had to start from scratch and I don't have access to all of my goodies on my PC account.
Oh well.
I got through the initial prelude of the game afterwards, but didn't have a lot of time since we had company over. It is definitely an adjustment working this through a console and a hand controller, but I was slowly adapting to it... a little. The graphics look quite good on a large high resolution screen but I was like a beginner trying to control my Miranda class vessel effectively in battle the first time. lol
I'm going to try to make some time during this week and beyond to test this out more thoroughly.
Anyone else besides Joester try this out yet? Does anyone use this format regularly? Just wondering.

Cadet Noelle has a PS4 account, and you can find their name@ info on the "Joining the Fleet" thread.

Jeff T it is weird compared to PC play, I was severely pissed off when I found out my Lifetime Sub didnt transfer over, but it is what it is, they still have alot of bugs to work out, quite a few missions need to be fixed so far as Ive gotten which is Commander level Jeff if you want to send me a PM with your PSN this way we can get a LF fleet started on the playstation 4
