Okrum

SHORT DESCRIPTION:
Okrum are bi-pedal reptilianoids from the planet Okru Prime in the Kiro'luk System. They are leathery like reptiles but have broad facial features, similar to that of Cro-Magnon man. They average between 1.9m and 2.2m in height and weight between 113kg - 130kgs for males and 100kg - 110kg for females.

Okrum posses advanced strength comparable to that of the Vulcans and the combat prowess comparable to the Klingons.

Okrum share a great sense of nationalistic pride, and are honor-bound even in the face of death to fulfill any obligations given to them by their masters / leadership.

GEOPHYSICAL DESCRIPTION

PLANETARY SYSTEM:
The Kiro'luk system consists of 7 planets revolving around two suns. Of the 7 only two are habitable.

PLANET:
Okru Prime is the only planet in the Kiro'luk system that Okrum are capable of living on.

DESCRIPTION:
Okru Prime, often referred to as Okru, or Ok, is a planet divided nearly in half by a massive ocean separating a lush jungle and a vast desert.

There are 17 major cities on Okru, 11 of which are on the jungle side of the planet, 4 on the desert side of the planet, and two located on islands in between.

The largest of which, Minu, has a population of more than 15 million Okrum.

Cities are sparsely spread throughout Okru, mostly thriving on trade to survive. The least amount of Okru's population can be found in these small cities.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION

APPEARANCE:
Okrum are leathery like reptiles but have broad facial features, similar to that of Cro-Magnon man. They average between 1.9m and 2.2m in height and weight between 113kg - 130kgs for males and 100kg - 110kg for females.

Okrum females are separated from the males by their physical appearance. Though their actual strength is not diminished, they all but have the appearance of the 'weaker' of the species.

PHYSIOLOGY:
Okrum grow to maturity quickly. By their second year, Okrum children are nearly fully grown, and capable of mating.

At the age of 3, Okrum children are taken away from their mates and sent for hard labor. This steels their bodies in preparation of impending battles.

By the age of 5 Okrum adults are taught the way of war.

Okrum are said to live as long as 200-250 years, however, due to their constant in fighting and physical tests, most Okrum scarcely make it to 100.

MATING:
Okrum mating rituals are often extremely savage, and should not be mentioned here. It is said that it's similar to that of human mating habits.

DIET:
Okrum are carnivores. It is said if an Okrum eats anything other than meat, it's out of extreme necessity.

NAMING:
Okrum naming being as a simple way of equating them to the tools of their trades. Hence, several Okrum held the name Ax, with the clan name to separate.

It must, however, be understood that an Okrum name is given, not taken. The elder passes down a name, that an Okrum will spend the rest of its life earning.

As they progressed in technology, Okrum names began to vary, some tribes on Okru even began allowing their newer generations to choose their own names. Some of the largest cities on Okru, however, still follow the original traditions.

SOCIETY

SOCIETY:
Okru are a warfaring society. Everything they have or have had, was built in blood and stone. When the Okrum finally figured out space travel, they discovered that they were tiny compared to the greater cosmos, bringing the previously warring tribes closer together with the goal of expanding their influence within their system and possibly beyond. However, they are still divided into separate tribes, each one with a different goal and purpose within this new Okrum society. (See Separation of Tribes).

Due to the honor of battle, and the honor one earns from battle, most Okru clans placed very little necessity to science and technology. These clans were vastly outnumbered by the large Orku clans.

GOVERNMENT:
The Okru clans all have an elder, and these elders consist of the Order of Eldership, often referred to by 2/3 vote on what is better or worse for the clans. Due to the massive war fighters advantage, technology and science are usually pursued through personal means.

RELIGION:
Okru share this one thing. They only believe in Gruma'ak. But no outsider will ever know of Gruma'ak, other than minor whispers to the Orku God.

MYTHS:
It is rumored that Gruma'ak came to Okru and breathed life into the first Okru colony.

RELATIONS TO THE FEDERATION:
After years of grinding out scientific advancement, the Okrum finally achieved their first warp flight. This new technology brought great possibilities to the Okrum as they realized there were new things outside of their own, war torn planet.

Their decisions to essentially put aside their greater conflict in order to pursue this new frontier attracted the attention of a Federation science vessel that had been carefully studying the budding civilization.

After much deliberation, the Federation decided to initiate a cautious First Contact. Subsequently, while looking to the Federation as guides into this greater galactic community, the Okrum remain very withdrawn and separate in their ways, looking on most outsiders with a degree of hostility and mistrust.

At present, they have no plans to apply for Federation membership.

HISTORY

EARLY HISTORY:
Though still limited in their contact with the outside world, the Okru's early, dark history is not spoke to outsiders.

SEPARATION OF THE TRIBES
Orkum as a species are separated into clans. These clans are separated by simple things like physical features, and even the color of their hair. Of the 18 tribes of Okru Prime, a vast number of the Orkum rely only on the prowess of their strength and battle effectiveness. A small number has opened their minds to science and technology, and the remaining are nomadic, picking different traits as they progress through their history.

SPACE EXPLORATION:
Okru have never left their own system.

WARP DEVELOPMENT:

Due to the vast size of the Kiro'luk System, many of the technology clans of the Okru, grew curious of what lay past the recesses of their own space. When they got the end, however, they realized it was just more space.

Stardate 67927.86

April 27 1500hrs
"I have been sent on a mission to a backwater planet under rumor that First Contact is expected to happen any minute now. This planet thrives on war, how could they have accomplished so much, separate in their goals? I guess we will find out.

April 29 0800hrs
"After 7 HOURS of debate between the clans of this nation, it is my expert opinion that they should not be allowed to share our technology. Mark my words, this race will try and fight us all."

May 1, 0800hrs
"It has been several days now, and the Orkum have finally come to a head together. Maybe there is hope for this race after all. I still don't believe they have yet earned their place in the Federation."
