GEOPHYSICAL DESCRIPTION
Xenex is a Class-M planet orbiting the lone star of the Xenex system in sector 221-G in the Alpha Quadrant. The Xenex system is near the edge of Danteri and Thallonian controlled space in the vicinity of Deep Space 5 and the Romulan Empire.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION
Xenexians mostly resemble humans and are bronze skinned. Approximately 33% of Xenexians have violet colored eyes. Xenexians are able to regulate their body temperature to a certain degree. Some have even demonstrated low level psionic abilities though this is uncommon.
Xenexian women reach the peak of their fertile cycle once every three months. In Xenexian tradition, the Tribe leaders are permitted to provide a female with a child if they wish to conceive and do not have a mate. The Tribal leaders also practice ritual sex with adolescent females, although the goal is considered to be more a blessing then an attempt to fertilize. All sex is consensual during such rituals. Sometimes Chieftains are considered to be "breeding machines" for their tribe to increase numbers as needed. Anyone, including off-worlders may make this request to a Xenexian Clan Chieftain. The responsibilities of a clan chieftain follows along family lines, when a Chief is absent, the clan Warlord is permitted to assume leadership of the clan in their absence.
- Homebrew is a Xenexian alcoholic drink.
- Cogan fruit is a Xenexian fruit that has seeds.
- Harish and lodoen are Xenexian crops.
LANGUAGE
Xenexian names often use gutturals that off-worlders find difficult to pronounce.
Xenexians sometimes refer to their children as begotens or begots.
Janos = Great strength
Grozit = Xenexian swear word
R'Ksha is a Xenexian rank that is the equivalent of Captain.
Foldes is the Xenexian word for table.
Xenexian expressions are raunchy and racy. "You look well," has a literal translation of "I wager your genitals have not shrunk!" Xenexians display a total lack of tact.
SOCIETY
- Very few Xenexians choose to leave Xenex. There are not many aliens who visit Xenex.
- Xenexians are considered adults at the age of thirteen.
- Young Xenexians often visited the a vast stretch of inhospitable terrain known as the Pit in a rite of passage known as "The Search for Allways" until the casualties became too high, at which point it became more of a highly-discouraged dare among Xenexian youth. The rites traditions dictated that the undertaker of the journey was to take supplies for one day. The goal of the Search was to be given a vision of one's future.
- Xenexian marriages are conducted by the village shaman. Other marriages are not considered legal on Xenex. The Marriage ceremony is called the ceremony of bonding. Residence of the shaman has prayer symbols on the exterior, which ask the gods for strength, wisdom and guidance.
There are ancient Xenexian rituals to test worthiness of a female mate. They are not used anymore and are from a time when women were bred from birth to withstand all manner of challenges, physical and mental. The rituals involve causing an avalanche and trying to dodge it, running through a maze of fire, and biting insects. In the final challenge, the husband to be is present, and she is asked to jump off a cliff. She proves she is not stupid enough to jump off a cliff, and the man, that he will give up everything for her.
Land marriage is an old Xenexian tradition from before the Danteri occupation. When a widow wanted to protect her estate or her honor or children by her fist husband, she should marry her own land. From then on, sheÂ’d be known as the Lady of Long Acres, or whatever her lands were called. All that is required is a public oath. The woman is then tied to her land and stays celibate.
Xenexians are polytheistic.
The Xenexians have a three-headed God of Lightning named J'e'n't.
Kaz'hera is the Xenexian version of Valhalla. It is where Xenexian heroes who were cut down in battle go to die. When you first arrive, you have to survive to see your first sunset in Kaz'hera. If you don't, you keep going back to the point where you left off. And once you've lived through that same day, you awaken every morning to a day of warfare and battle. It doesn't matter if you get hurt, or if you die, because come sunset, the day ends and the next morning you wake up and it's a new day. The only thing you can remember from the day before is anything that you've learned that's of immediate use. Otherwise you continually, blissfully, spend every day for the rest of eternity engaged in pleasant and endless mayhem.
Xenexian taverns have weapons hung on the walls for the convenience of drunken customers. The reasoning is that customers who allow themselves to get too drunk to fight, but try and do so anyway, are too stupid to live and therefore duels with such individuals should be facilitated. That way they won't continue to cause mischief.
HISTORY
The Danteri conquered Xenex in 2053 and ruled the planet of Xenex for over 300 years, until the 24th century. Initially the planet was held in an iron grip, with little chance of freedom, until a teenage resistance leader named M'k'n'zy of Calhoun started an uprising to free his people. Danteri atrocities during their rule included killing civilians (including unborn children), burning entire villages, and the removal of petty criminals' limbs with lasers.
Tentative first contact had taken place between the Federation and Xenex when M'k'n'zy, after a vicious fight with the Danteri, was introduced to Captain Jean-Luc Picard of the USS Stargazer, who expressed his desire to see peace on the world. The meeting did little to relieve the turmoil, and the fighting continued. After the astonishing success of the M'k'n'zy uprising, the Federation took a greater interest in the affairs of Xenex and mediated the peace treaty between the two worlds, which facilitated the total Danteri withdrawal from the system.
Before the Xenexians invented flight, Keeps on Xenex had outcroppings of rock several feet high that ringed the keep's outer edge, to prevent wheeled war-vehicles from getting too close.
