Jean-Luc Picard is back! New Star Trek Series!

If you have not heard, at STLV, Sir Patrick Stewart announced that he will be reprising his role as Jean-Luc Picard in a new Star Trek Series.

http://ew.com/tv/2018/08/04/star-trek-fans-patrick-stewart-announcement-reaction-video/

I've spoken with a few people who were at the convention when this was announced; apparently this new series will pick up 20 years after Star Trek Nemesis and it was stated that Jean-Luc Picard is no longer a captain.

SO...my theories:
- While it was stated that Picard is no longer a captain, it was not stated that he would not be in command.  Could Picard still be in command of the Enterprise E, but hold the rank of Commodore or Admiral?  There is precedence in the Trek universe for a Commodore being in command of a starship (Star Trek TOS).

- In season 1 of TNG, Picard was offered an admiralty position and to take over Starfleet Academy.  There have been rumors of an Academy series; could we see Admiral Picard in that role?  While many see an Academy-based show as boring, the action could all occur in intense holodeck simulations, drawing from real-life events, such as the Dominion War.  The drama of the show would all be in the real-world.  Downside, the show would, at most, be good for 4 seasons...the same issue as Glee when the students graduated.

- In more than one episode of TNG, it was suggested that Picard would become an Ambassador later in life; could the series be focused on Ambassador Picard?

- Back to the idea that Picard becomes an Admiral, what if Picard was the TOP admiral in Starfleet, becoming the Commander in Chief?

Okay Fleet, thoughts?  Other ideas?

The comic book series, Star Trek: Countdown, a prequel to the Star Trek film, was based on the Orci/Kurtzman screenplay for the film. In that story, Picard became Ambassador to Vulcan at some point just before the Hobus supernova event. Data is also downloaded into B4. The comic book series was based in 2387.
So I could see Kurtzman wanting to get this comic timeline event into the new show with Jean-Luc. Although it wouldn't need to be based soley about his Ambassadorship ... based on the two planets thereabouts, it could possibly be a drawing board for the new show ... perhaps with Picard giving up his ambassador status for something more in tune with his previous life as Captain.
Time will show, but as Admiral Kheren has stated elsewhere ... and often ... not all good things come from a Kurtzman narrative.

*See what I did there?*** :-P

Proof is in the Pudding:

- Star Trek 2009; screenplay by Roberto Orci & Alex Kurtzman; the dumbing down of Star Trek into a popcorn sci fi mindless roller coaster

- Star Trek Into Darkness; screenplay by Roberto Orci & Alex Kurtzman; the unwanted, unasked for and ridiculous rip-off of The Wrath of Khan

- Star Trek Beyond; originally to be helmed by Kurtzman but fired after wanting to do stupid shit with it like bringing in the Borg

- The Amazing Spider-Man 2; screenplay and executive producing by Roberto Orci & Alex Kurtzman; the movie that killed the franchise and forced a deal to give Spidey back to Marvel Studios (now that was not a bad thing; but still came out of a bad Kurtzman work)

- Star Trek Discovery; showrunner Alex Kurtzman; the massacre of Star Trek expanded to television

So... what are we to expect from him as showrunner for yet another Star Trek show?

Meanwhile, on board true Trek fan Seth Mcfarlane's starship The Orville...

Sad news friends..
From what I've been able to uncover Picards return is NOT going to be anything positive.
Their bringing him in to merge the prime time line.. with.. Discovery..

Shoot me now..

That's right, their tired of all us whiners talking about cannon so their going to remove it entirely.

I'm to tired for words..

Redding, could you provide any links where this is being stated please? I am confident all us here would like to read them ... so we can register there and voice our distinct displeasure at this news.

I suspected as much.

The Nu Trek is as much Kurtzman's creation as Abrams if not even more so as he wrote it for him. I never expected of him to give us Star Trek, only his dumb Star Wars rip off. And since his boss Moonvies can,t tell the difference...

We have a better chance of getting something closer to Trek with Quentin Tarantino's planned R-rated version than with this bozo.
or at least something that may not be as disappointing as virtually everything he touched.

Here we go...

It also explains why any other version of ST even exists.

 Thanks Commodore.

As we all know, as long as CBS has control of Star Trek canon, there will never be good Star Trek anymore.

Hollywood Reporter feed gave me this for Discovery ... Ethan Peck as Spock. Ethan is the grandson of Gregory Peck.

Sorry for the delay, but I have been busy. I must admit I was hopeful when I heard that Picard was coming back. This has slowly changed however as I have seen more and more about what the plans might be. I still maintain a sliver of hope that something good will come from it, but I fear it will simply by a way to force Discovery on more fans. Unrelated side note I also saw that Netflix international will not be ordering season 2 of Discovery meaning the only way for the rest of the world to see it will be on CBS all access as well. I am guessing this show is on borrowed time, but I also feel that this show will not be canceled just out of spite.
