I'll maintain my standard belief that this is good science fantasy, but poor Star Trek.
If it wasn't using my favorite people in science fiction I'd probably love it.

Simon Pegg's reaction to the trailer:

I'm hoping that this is true.

Abrams not helming it (at least directly), Orci & Kurtzman not writing it (although Kurtzman is or at least was heavily involved) Pegg having allegedly a lot of influence on it (thus an unknown factor), apparently no science (in a sci-fi movie...) to be messed up with, maybe, just maybe, this one might actually be half decent this time. Maybe...

But...

It appears to be a Star Trek without the Enterprise as it is emphatically shown to be destroyed (uninteresting cliche since ST III and Generations) and all the action planetside (no stars and no trek in star trek) wich appears only as a conflict (of course... what other story can there be in Trek?) with (again) unknown aliens (Frag canon once again).

The Abrams formula of empty spectacle and pseudo-shock moments (my gosh! the Enterprise is destroyed! Good god! Spock abandonning McCoy!) seems again full at work in what looks like a bloated TV episode (and not such a good one at that, especially by Trek standards)... if not Fast & Furious in space (bikes... really...).

Now, Pegg states there is a story worth watching and that the trailer does not reflect this.

We can always hope... but mine is not going to be held too high.

Well, I'm more inclined to see Star Trek: Horizon than this CBS piece of tras, er ... trek.
