38 years ago today, Sept. 17, 1976, NASA's prototype space shuttle Enterprise was displayed for the first time before a crowd of thousands, including these celebrities.

Nichelle Nichols (Uhurah) actually got to do some outreach for the space program to help let blacks and women know they can be astronaughts too.
I wish I could find some of the old ads but their surprisingly rare. A clip of them is shown in the extras section of the Motion Picture.
