Re: Richard Shaver and the Shaver Mystery: the Inspiration f
I would even say; fascinating.
Again, it shows that nothing comes out of a vacuum, especially in culture. Combine that with what is shown in the 1950's classic sci-fi movie Forbidden Planet and you almost got Star Trek pilot "The Cage" spelled out in content and style.
What set apart Star trek from it's inspirational sources however, is the philosophy Roddenberry surimposed on style and content and how he used all of it to speak about philosophical, social and humanistic themes. Again, he did not come up with any of his humanistic views; denouncing racism, sexism, war or celebrating peace, the brotherhood and ingenuity of Humanity, higher morality and the sacrality of life had been well underway long before he was even born. But it is the whole package of style, content and meaning through a readily accessible medium that made History in September 1966.
Long Live Trek!
