So... generally what are your thoughts on this fan production?
Re: Pacific 201 (A Star Trek Fan Production) Part 1
Although the amateurism of it shows in some elements (acting, costumes) it is overall very impressive.
Although I am not fond of the ship design, it is at least exceedingly well rendered and look quite real despite violating almost all Eugene laws. Still it looks Trek enough. It still beats the USS Disgracery or the trash heap la Sirena or the absurd Cerritos hands down.
The visuals are very real-looking (budget went mostly on splendid FX and it shows) but the cinematography screams low budget with way too close shots and way too many of them. Still, much more watchable than dark, slanted nu-trek stuff by a mile and a half.
The characters are a bit caricatural but interesting enough to want to know more about them and what happens to them. the acting is quite uneven but that is a fan film so it is expected and not that glaring.
It showcases an actual mystery-sci-fi story set in the specific setting of quasi-military Trek, not intersectional politics or socio-political agenda. For that alone it is already heads above current official Trek.
But most of all, it has the very distinct Starfleet feel current official productions lack completely.
Definitely worth watching. I'm eager for part 2.

I thought it was pretty good for a fan film, production was higher than a lot of ones i've seen.
ship looked pretty good, very similar to the constellation class, but instead of the bottom 2 nacelles, its got a small engineering hull. odd choice to have the strut continue up past the nacelles like a tail, but its not awful.

I have not seen it yet, but I will add it to my list of must watch soon.
"The first duty of every Starfleet officer is to the truth, whether it's scientific truth or historical truth or personal truth! It is the guiding principle on which Starfleet is based! And if you can't find it within yourself to stand up and tell the truth about what happened, you don't deserve to wear that uniform! " - Captain Picard from TNG Episode 'The First Duty'
