Including the USS Artemis... obviously an homage to our lost stalwart vessel here in Lotus Fleet
Sticking to Starfleet (and captain) protocols in this very brief vignette. Hey CB$ and Paramount... you might want to give that a try.

Nice to imagine that the Artemis could get a history second only to the Enterprise
And yes, having a starship crew act and react like an experienced, battle-hardened professional military unit, even heroic, instead of a schoolbus in space with mutinous, murdering space jesus magically saving the day, that's most satisfying.

And a new interesting tidbit to help us wait.

These guys sure make us mourn the current state of Star Trek. What could have been if real fans where at the helm.

The Finnegan character was really close to the the original in looks, voice, mannerisms, etc...
The Kirk character... not quite.
Nevertheless, an interesting scene that falls in step with what was mentioned in regards to Kirk failing the test at first... before coming up with his novel yet not so honorable solution later on.

Indeed, Finnegan is absolutely spot on. Gary Mitchell feels adequate although his line feels very, very fabricated, only made to have us ID him properly. As for Kirk, well casting an actor with hair so dark to begin with ruins the portrayal.
Still heads and shoulders above the stupid rendition by Abrams in Trek 09 where, as shown in a deleted scene, he merely seduces an Orion girl cadet (canon violation right there) assigned to programming in simply doing all the work for him (and then whinning at his hearing that the test wasn't fair.)
From the novelization of TWOK, we learn what actually happen, why Kirk even received a commendation despite cheating; he conceived, planned, recruited for and lead with mere cadets a successful commando operation of infiltration and sabotage... and against Starfleet Security at Starfleet Academy! This showed not only that he was thinking outside the box, a rare and precious quality, but qualities of leadership, daring, ressourcefullness, ingenuity and resolve and the ability to succeed against heavy odds while taking responsibility for his actions (he would not whine when under judgment but simply state: ''I don't like to lose. I don't beleive in a no-win scenario'').
All that would later save ship and crew during a difficult and dangerous first contact when then and there he also changed the rules (TOS The Corbomite Maneuver: ''No more chess Mr Spock; poker.'')
If you need just one example of why Nu-trek is not Star Trek, there you have it. Alec Peters and the Axanar gang however, show once again that they are true fans and that they get it.
