On September 8th, the Board of Governors of the Academy of Television Arts & Science will present the Governors Award to the Star Trek franchise, and CBS, at the Annual Emmy Awards Presentation.

While I applaud the presentation to the Star Trek franchise, I DO NOT agree that CBS deserves the distinction along with Star Trek. CBS did not create the program, Desilu did. WHat think you guys? Do you believe CBS deserves the award?
Re: Governors Award.
It is hard to judge the past through the lens of today. While CBS did indeed air star trek, back in the 1960s television was still a small market contract business. The idea of networks producing, and creating, their own shows was unheard of. Instead they contracted out to show creators for content and then acted as the sole broadcast rights owner. In this way, CBS did not create Star Trek but merely paid for the rights to broadcast a show someone else created with CBS money. Given the fact that the films and the continued TNG universe is what really brought Star Trek to the masses none of which were directly tied to CBS but instead run through Paramount and what was then Viacom on a syndication contract. Then I must say that I do not feel CBS deserves the credit for creating or even really driving Star Trek.

And if you can't find it within yourself to stand up and tell the truth about what happened, you don't deserve to wear that uniform! " - Captain Picard from TNG Episode 'The First Duty'

Fact is, TOS was originally an NBC show.

Here is the link to the 2018 Creative Arts Emmy presentation.
I admit, my throat tightened up a little through the later half when the star's started filling the stage.

Re: Governors Award.
I hope Kurtzman listened good to what Shatner said; he simply stated everything Kurtzman has missed so far with the Abrams movies and DISC.
Funny the representative for DISC was Kurtzman himself and not one of the other actors than Sonequa Martin Green. This was the only series not represented by an actor. Egotism? Sign of trouble? or simply sign that they still miss the fundamental Trek notion that Trek is about a team, not one Mary Sue?
Anyway, a well deserved hommage.

Re: Governors Award.
Netflix paid for the first season, so CBS pretty much made Discovery for free. Even with that sweet deal they still under preformed financially considering that merchandise sales were terrible and toy makers flat out said no because they knew no one would buy Discovery toys. CBS does not want to front Discovery as an equal because they risk doing more damage to the brand. I think having no crew there was a smart choice from a studio that knows it has a program in trouble. If CBS did not get to make Discovery for free it would have been canceled during production of season 1.

Re: Governors Award.
Yet, they showed their dumbass Orc-Klingon, one of the heaviest criticism made about the show.
If your hypothesis is correct, they are as bad with marketing as they are in putting up a good Trek series. But at this point, seeing them make bad decisions is what is expected.
