Many of my news feeds are reporting that Robert Orci is out as the director for Star Trek 3 ( or 13 in film count's ). There seems to be no reason given yet as to his stepping down. Orci will continue as producer.

Re: Orci out!!!
There might be a light at the end of the tunnel...
Although he's still producing = paying = calling the shots. US moviemaking differs from that of the rest of the world by the fact that directors are only responsible for the actors performance, not the whole creative process (unless they are producers too... like Abrams was); this is the domain of producers and especially executive producers and production designers. So he's pretty much still in command. And if he still works on the script, then we're still in big trouble since the worst part of Nu-Trek is the lame storytelling and character portrayal/developpement... which has always been at the heart of REAL Trek (see any of the 3 Star Trek Continues episodes on Youtube for how it should be done).
Orci (with Kurtzman) managed to even outdo ST V; no mean failure.
However, if this is but the start of a movement to clear all the previous team and start with a fresh (better) one, then maybe... just maybe...
But I'm not holding my breath just yet.

Re: Orci out!!!
Let us hope so.
They (Paramount & associates) are living in a box if they don't realize how many fans detest the way they (Abrams, Oric & Co) have watered down the franchise to a substance-less ooze of meaningless effects, cliches, and rehashed pieces.
Similarly, the next installments of Star Wars (not that I really care) after this upcoming one will be out of the hands of Abrams as well. Unless that is if Paramount puts these three stooges back in control of Star Trek again. Forbid even that thought!
As someone posted before.... here's the video with James Cawley (as Kirk - New Voyages: Phase II) as he takes the original Enterprise and restores the timeline. Priceless!!!

Ahhh... to dream is the first step in making it so.
For those that want to see a behind the scenes version of the team creating that "Timeline Restored" video, here ya go: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nm04InnA7bw

Re: Orci out!!!
Paramount and CBS, like all big studios, only sees and care for the money. With the hundreds of millions of dollars brought back by these inane rip-offs and those usually brought also by these men (even if they kill franchises doing it like they did with the Transformers and more recently Spider-Man), they have no reason in their minds not to beg these guys for doing it again.
They don't care one bit what Star Trek is or should be; only that the name alone instantly cashes in millions regardless of what moron exploits it.
I know; Star Trek's legendary success and fame was not at all because it was a lucrative thing (they cancelled it after 3 years originally) but because of the fans, like you and me.
Unfotunately, neither you or I or any of those fans are movie producers. Cawley, Mignogna and Co are, just unfortunately, just small bit players in the business and not in the big studios favors... although we can dream of some ideal future where, maybe... just maybe...
Just like Trek itself
And yes, Thank You Mr Cawley for that priceless moment.
