A Crowdfunded 'Trek' Movie Shoots for the Stars

Postby Jeff T » Wed Aug 20, 2014 11:24 pm

Here's the intro to the article:

The third installment in the recently rebooted Star Trek movie franchise hasn’t shot a frame of film yet, but work is well underway on another Trek feature, made possible by the enthusiasm (and funds) of dedicated Trekkies. Star Trek: Axana is the brainchild of writer/producer/star/fanboy Alec Peters. The 90-minute, crowdfunded production (due out in 2015) will at long last, reveal the full story behind the pivotal Battle of Axanar, an event initially referenced in a season 3 episode of the original series, “Whom Gods Destroy.”

What is unfortunate is that CBS just allows these things to happen but do not officially and most of all financially back them up; they choose instead to back up a moneybringer Star Wars fan instead of a true creator and Trek fan... not realizing that any moron having the official Trek brand in his hands will always make millions come in regardless of the crap he will put out.

Case in point: Abrams STINOs.

Nevertheless, I will be eagerly awaiting this new effort at TRULY bring back Star Trek to us. Their choice of story is telling; Axanar is the name of one of James T Kirk's numerous medals, the Axanar Peace Prize.

There is still hope. :)

I agree on all points Kheren.

The major advantage of this method (like Star Trek Continues) however, is that there won't be any non-involved CBS/Paramount executives interfering with this project, by trying to chime in, dictate, and/or commercialize aspects of the process or the final result. It is in the hands of dedicated and talented fans who will strive to keep the integrity of this effort (film) intact.

Maybe through the success of these aforementioned fan-based series and film (in terms of fans, support, and achievement on a limited budget) the concept of how vital it is to have REAL Star Trek stories being told, instead of those not even half-baked Abrams and company poor excuses that have been presented to us... in name only, will somehow be made clear to even the densest of minds.

Amen to that.

Unfortunately, History shows us it is rarely the case. Recall how hard and long Roddenberry had to fight to bring this show on the air, keep it alive and bring it back, all that with the help of the fans to begin with. The studios didn't understand it, even years after it,s established success. Very few peiople in the Entertainment world get it, least of all those who see entertainement as strictly business.

Studios care only for the money, nothing else; hence why they chose Abrams and why they keep him there, despite the success of his work being quite relative, I refer you to my study on the true financial comparative success of Trek movies I gave you for your discussion panel.

BTW How did it go?

The convention panel (This Ain't You Father's Star Trek or JJ vs Gene: A Battle for the Ages) was a fun and civil battle.

Toward the later half of the presentation, as the JJ fans were trying to justify aspects of his abomination, I simply used some of that other data, along with the financial data that I embedded into a PowerPoint, to nullify their points as they were discussing them. I then ended the panel with the Honest Trailers of 2009 and Into Darkness.

The JJ fanboys didn't appreciate any of this.... but the majority of the audience definitely got a big kick out of this. ;-)
