This gentleman created a well-thought out critique of this latest movie by Abrams and Co. that addresses many of the issues running through my head as I watched this movie the day after Christmas.
There are spoilers throughout, so I would not advise watching it before you've seen this movie... if that is your intention.
I will not say anything about the movie... (yet)...
The video pretty much handles most of it. Although there some other points that I thought he might bring up as well.
Warning: It is not a favorable assessment... but he makes his points using clips as well.
So... click at you own risk.

Re: Star Wars: The Force Awakens - video critique
Now I understand why I was, not bored really, but unexcited, unsurprised and unthrilled by this movie. Even the prequels I wanted to watch again... but not this one.
I had already seen it... in 1977.
So... Jar Jar Abrams did it again; lazily exploiting and betraying Star Wars just as he had done with Star Trek. But, this time, at least, he did not puke ont the entire canon and managed to keep the story and style true to form even if, again, the screewriting is also true to form with Abrams: weak and dumb. And this time, he cannot transfer the blame to Orci & Kurtzman. How could Laurence Kasdan be a part of this?
Fortunately for him, Star Wars not being Sci-Fi, the glaring, moronic scientific idiocies are not as detrimental as with Trek, at least to most fans. That's why I for one managed to ignore them and tried to enjoy this fantasy as a fantasy.
It's... nice, but... But it's no Lord of the Rings or Harry Potter... and I don't even like Harry Potter.

Re: Star Wars: The Force Awakens - video critique
The best I can say about this to my friends was that it's very Star Wars. Of course that's an understatement as it's very Star Wars maybe too much so (as in episode 4).
The new Death Star was so over the top as to be ridiculous, and they really should have left a mask on Darth Wren, because after that he was just a moody Anakin Skywalker.
Otherwise I really had no problem with it, it was a pretty good movie.
