Re: USS Horizon development thread

Yeah, first thing I did was create an invisible box with a Length of 1285.2m, Width of 927.46m, and a Height of 199m.

The ship with nacelles doesn't fit, but if you don't count the nacelles, or the pylons and instead consider the length to be from saucer foremost to secondary hull aftmost, it works. The problem is the circular saucer. Since the Saucer defines the width of the vessel, 927.46m of the total 1285.2m is saucer section.

In this latest incarnation of the nacelles, the total length of USS Horizon is 2050m. I'll make the boxes renderable for this set so the sizes can more easily be seen. The blue box has been my guide since the beginning of this iteration of work on the Horizon, and represents the three values above, taken from the Lotus-class ship spec PDF. The second one, in red, represents the current ship size, including nacelles, at 2050m in length.

One more, because I needed a part from USS Hoshea and said...oh hey. That'd look cool.

The proportions and basic shape are quite fine although it does make the whole ship truly immense (2km long!), almost starbase sized in truth!

But since this is the actual purpose of the ship, I can live with the idea of such a colossal vessel (original specs places it at 1,3 km which is already comparable to the scimitar's width; so maybe downsizing the saucer a bit and the rest in proportion will bring it back to specs?).

All in all, an impressive job Caltern.

I'll try to get the ship in its entirety within the blue box tonight, compare it with the Enterprise and the Hoshea and see how that goes. I've been looking at numbers so long on this that I didn't even connect in my head that 2000m was 2km!

Brand new material (not final, but the low rez texture was chaffing against my pride...) and brand new secondary hull. (The old one had issues I hadn't noticed the first time) Nacelles widened to balance them with the rest of the ship. Also included is the 1300m version. You'll note I needed to reposition the nacelle pylons to make it work. (If you only change the length and the width, and not the height, major distortions happen in the original hull design.)

getting shape nicely.

I noticed the frontal view shows horizontal struts instead of angled up.

I like the Galaxy size comparison. really makes thing clearer.

They're angled up, but I see what you mean. The camera I used puts them at an odd perspective, and the angle was shallow already. I'll poke at it some again. How's that secondary hull shape? And do you like the 1300 or the 2000m. Shape better?

Ah yes I understand the camera trick.

The 2000m shape looks slightly more majestic to me because of the slightly wider spread of the pylons and the less protruding upper decks\shuttlebay
