First Step to the Stars

Postby Hera » Wed Jan 16, 2013 6:36 am

Hera hurried to stand in front of the mirror in her cabin.  The Merchant ship was dusty and dingy but she didnt see it as she smoothed the imitation tunic and turned left and right looking at how it fit her.  Even the pain of her Right of Scourging were forgotten as she admired the Star Fleet uniform.  Everything she had done now, every argument and bridge burned had lead to this point and she had to see how the uniform looked, if it felt right.

Her white mane of hair, left wild, showed up smartly against the dark colors and she wondered if it made her look a but fat.  Frowning for a moment she caught her worry and laughed at how trivial it was.  she met her own gaze the blue of her eyes brought out by the color of her uniform.  Yes, it looked right.  No one at home would dream she wanted this, had tried to plan for it,  and did this with this in mind.  But here she was.  soon the stars would be hers to touch.

From outside her room came loud angry shouts and a frown crossed her brow looking at the door to the common area.  Mostly freighters only carried passengers as an afterthought but this was positively crowded with a Vulcan intellectual and two Klingon 'traders' on board.  The Klingons instantly started picking on the Klingon apparently taking Hera's implied threats as enough reason to leave her alone.

Hera's hands stroked over the tunic straightening it as she listened frowning.  She wanted to do something but she wasn't sure what ... she looked back at the mirror and straightened up imperceptably.  A Star Fleet Officer would know what to do.  So did she.  The Vulcan had been kind talking to her about the universe and playing chess.  he didn't deserve this and she would do something about it!  She started for the door then paused and headed to her chest of clothes, at least she would after her changed.

Later after receiving thanks from the Vulcan, compliments from the Klingon, and threats from the captain, Hera sat allowing the 'Doctor' of the ship to apply some basic heals to her.  She felt great...possibly better than she ever had since the Agon.  No matter what happened she knew she could take it on and deal with it.

The future and the stars were hers for the taking.

A retyping from memory of an older story, sorry it isnt polished but I wanted to type it out again very badly after finding out the original had been runined by my HD.

It's the moment of truth and the moment to lie
The moment to live and the moment to die
The moment to fight, the moment to fight, to fight, to fight, to FIGHT!
"I am not bound to win, but I am bound to be true.
I am not bound to succeed, but I am bound to live by the light that I have."
