"This is Captain Harrison, USS Artemis to any ships in the area! We are -kzzt-ustaining heavy fire! I repeat, we are sustaining heavy fire!" The screen was filled with static, just as the bridge it displayed was filled with smoke and chaos.

"The last recorded message from the USS Artemis, Stardate 35970.5," the Boslic man stated on the screen. It was addressed to every single member of Starfleet. He adjusted his red and black uniform, shifted to lean forward over his podium, emblazoned with the logo of Starfleet Command. "Stargazer. Artemis. Rutledge. The 2340's and 50's were terrible times for the Federation. Each of those ships - heroes of the Federation-Cardassian Wars."

"Presumed destroyed, the Artemis left behind a legacy. Captain Harrison negotiated for the cessation of hostilities at the Talarian border. The Artemis was there at Setlik III, aiding the Rutledge transport evacuees. That brave crew, on that bold ambassador-class vessel by themselves thwarted the single biggest gambit the Cardassians had mustered against us." He nodded once, solemnly, respectfully. "The USS Artemis was singlehandedly responsible for the preservation of thousands of Federation lives."

"In early 2412, we were contacted by the Cardassian government. They had something of a gift for us." He took a breath, his hands before him momentarily shaking with emotion. "They had found her."

His voice was low, filled with reverence. "They had found the Artemis, tucked away in a hidden dock; a dock built into an asteroid in the Orias sector." There was a meaningful pause.

"Many of you may remember the celebration, the return of this grand old ship. You remember the promises we made on that day. Renewed pledges of remembrance. Of sacrifice not going un-honored. That the Artemis would fight again."

"That day is today. The Federation has need of her Stalwart Guardian again, and our boys at Utopia Planetia and Starbase 10 have been busy making her ready. The time is now. Under proud banner of Lotus Fleet, one noble, mighty ship once again sets sail."

"To the past and future crews of the USS Artemis, bold and brave. The hopes and dreams of the Federation lie with you. Fly straight and true, like one of Artemis' mythical arrows."

Commission Acceptance Speech


The relaunch of the Ambassador class starship USS Artemis has raised more than one eyebrow. The ship is almost seventy years old, seemingly outclassed by every other modern design.

Then, why was the Artemis not simply decommissionned in favor of a brand new ship like the modern Sovereign class or even the highly successful Galaxy class?

Outside of any economic and urgency need to quickly and easily resuplying Starfleet after the attrition of growing and incessant conflict all sides of the Quadrant, there were two compelling reasons for Starfleet to do so:


1- The beating heart of the Federation

The Ambassador class was the original testbed for revolutionary technologies that were so successful, it gave birth to the following Galaxy class before this class had been even fully deployed. Of all ship classes, this one had one of the shortest lifespans; not because it was a failure, but because it was indeed too successful for its own sake!

Twin warp nacelles, multifunctional consoles, isolinear chips, phaser arrays, cowled multisalvo torpedo launchers, improved impulse engines... even the saucer seper and multivector assault modes, all of those and more were introduced on this class. The Starfleet Corps of Engineers thus found it easy to use the design again for testing 25th century technology retrofitting procedures when one was suddenly made available, as the Ambassador class is at a unique engineering convergence of old and new designs and proved itself so good for that very purpose.

The resurrected USS Artemis is a fully restored and successfully refitted Ambassador class, with state of the art 25th century technology smoothly integrated with her unique classical design. As she stands now, she outclasses even the more recent Galaxy class starships in service in many aspects, most notably in research capacity, first contact and ambassadorial duties as well as combat maneuverability, and all this at a quarter of the required personnel and ressources. Her detachable bridge module alone offers unique tactical and exploration opportunities that need to be tested in the field.

For these alone, the USS Artemis shows herself to be more than relevant as a recommissionned ship of the line.


2- The living soul of the Federation

War and Peace both rely on morale. The last decade of growing conflict all across the Quadrant, and the latest, horrible Borg War, left Starfleet in shambles and the Federation in mourning.The horizon looks dark and cold indeed.

And then, out of the glorious past, comes out a symbol of the Federation and Starfleet's past triumphs as a promise of a better, brighter future, a future where the Federation will always prevail: The Artemis.

The USS Artemis is a ship of legend, with a reputation only shadowed by the USS Enterprise, the USS Voyager and the USS Defiant: many times at the heart of heroic deeds for decades, many times declared destroyed and yet, always returning triumphant each time. Therefore, her latest resurrection could only become but the single greatest symbol of Triumph and Hope for all citizens of the United Federation of Planets, the single most factual beacon of light that could have been dreamed of. 

By resurrecting the legendary Stalwart Guardian of the Federation with perfectly integrated state of the art technology, Starfleet showed to all the firm value of her past, its present efficiency and a defiance of those future ''interesting times'' looming over the horizon with, not yet a new ship of war, but a venerable ship of Peace. 

For this reason alone, the recommissionned USS Artemis shows herself more than relevant as THE ship of Hope for the United Federation of Planets.


Proud ship of Lotus Fleet

Because of its steadfast success in protecting the Federation, up to its decisive action in the latest, most terrible flash war against the Borg, Lotus Fleet has been singled out as the Starfleet division most worthy of carrying that beacon. The fourth most reknowned starship in Starfleet History and one of the two still in active service, the USS Artemis is for Lotus Fleet the premier ship for deep space exploration and the promotion of peace.

I was one of those who frowned at the return of the Artemis. I am now of those lifting high up both arms in joy and pride at all the merits and hopes she bears.

And I will be her Captain: Captain of the ship of triumph and hope.

No other starship will ever be as worthy of her dedication:
The Sun never saw her like outside of Olympus.

Captain Harrison's exploits within the Federation are the stuff of legend. A great diplomat, explorer, and a courageous man, Harrison clearly took on the legacy of his former Captain, James T. Kirk.

The USS Artemis, its keel laid down in 2337 and newly commissioned in 2340 (stardate 17605.8) under his command, explored the region of space bordering the Cardassian Union and Talarian Republic in the early 2340's. She made first contact with three species, bringing one into the Federation and managing to keep diplomatic ties with the others. For twenty years, the crew of the USS Artemis were the pride of the Federation.

In 2343,(stardate 20986.7) the crew of the USS Artemis made first contact with the Talarians. The xenophobic species were even at this point in history technologically inferior, their weaponry no match for an Ambassador-class' shields. Still, the species proved quite willing to go to war, seeing the Federation's explorations as trespass into their territory.

In 2344, (stardate 21548.9) after several skirmishes, Captain Harrison and the crew of the USS Artemis negotiated a non-aggression pact with the Talarian Republic. His confidence and charisma shone through, and his tact and mannerisms garnered much grudging respect from the Republic's officials.

In 2345, (stardate 22783.2) Captain Harrison was instrumental in Starbase 214's development. It had, until that point, been a minor Starbase, consisting of two Miranda-class saucer sections joined together. He successfully convinced Starfleet that the safety of the sector and its colonies would only be ensured by a fully upgraded station. The upgraded station proved its worth only a year later, once the Federation-Cardassian wars had begun.

In 2347, (stardate 24301.0) The USS Artemis came to the aid of the USS Rutledge, coordinating with Rutledge's tactical officer, Miles Edward O'Brien to ensure the safe evacuation of the surviving colonists from Setlik III.

Also in 2347, (stardate 24629.8) the USS Artemis came to the aid of the USS Al-Batani. Captain Owen Paris's ship had become embroiled in a ground war with the Cardassians at a Federation outpost that had lasted weeks. With the Artemis' fresh security teams led by Captain Harrison, Commander Rys, and Lt. Commander T'rem beaming down to the surface, Starfleet was able to secure the outpost.

In 2350, (stardate 27224.3) the USS Artemis escorted several colony ships to their destination of Dorvan V. Of note, a Cardassian warship was seen exiting the system, believed to have fled after noticing the famed Ambassador-class cruiser entering the system.

In 2351, (stardate 28383.2) the crew of the USS Artemis held tense diplomatic negotiations with the Talarians after aggressions flared up once more, assuaging them and keeping the Federation free from a two-front war.

Also in 2351, (stardate 28632.6) Commander Rys, first officer of the USS Artemis, transfers to the USS Wyoming. There, she led an away team to Outpost 60, which had been overrun by Cardassian forces. Her teams were instrumental in the rescue of 47 Starfleet personnel. The teams evacuated with only two casualties, leaving only one captured Starfleet officer: Commander Rys, who stayed behind, laying down cover fire until the last crewman beamed off the Outpost.

In 2352,(stardate 29893.1) Commander T'rem, now first officer of the USS Artemis, dies, managing to save the ship from destruction at the hands of an insidious Obsidian Order trap.

In 2354, (stardate 31717.5) Captain Harrison negotiates another non-aggression pact with the Talarian Republic, placating the Republic. It is noted at this time that the Talarian Captain representing the republic took off his glove to shake hands with Captain Harrison.

In 2355,(stardate 32125.7) Captain Harrison's daughter graduates from Starfleet Academy. A brilliant woman graduating with top honors, she has her pick of starships. She chooses the USS Artemis.

Also in 2355,(stardate 32553.1) the USS Artemis becomes embroiled in an extended firefight with several Cardassian ships in the Camor System. The fighting lasted for several days, with combat traveling in open space, to the upper-atmosphere of Camor II, through an asteroid belt, and finally ending in orbit around Camor's sun.

In 2356,(stardate 33212.8) the USS Artemis made a daring move, following a Cardassian ship deep into their territory. Employing the chief engineer's latest warp field modification, they were able to trick Cardassian sensors into reading the Ambassador as a subspace echo of their own ship. Behind enemy lines, the brave starship hid in the Tong Beak Nebula, gathering data for weeks before making an important discovery: a Cardassian task force headed for Starbase 214. Utilizing the same method they came in, the Artemis was able to head back to Federation space and transmit warnings to all colonies along the path, as well as to Starbase 214 and Starfleet Command.

Also in 2356, (stardate 33464.2) as a result of their actions within Cardassian space, a taskforce of several Federation starships met the Cardassians at the border, led by Captain Harrison and the Artemis. Outgunned and losing the element of surprise, the Cardassian ships were forced to retreat or be destroyed.

2357, (stardate 34824.3) Presumed destroyed, all hands reported lost.

The circumstances of her loss involved a task force of five Cardassian Galor class warships ambushing her at the Hugora Nebula. Utilizing an adapted weapon known as a Focused Plasma Wave, the Cardassian ships managed to "destroy" the Artemis.The explosion detonated several pockets of unstable gasses in the nebula, which, combined with the heavy damage inflicted upon them by the Artemis, resulted in the destruction of two of the Cardassian warships as well, and the crippling of two more. Out of the explosion flew one of the ruined nacelles of the Artemis, with the heat and ferocity of the attack attributed to the total vaporization of the rest of the ship.

In 2367 (stardate 44936.2), a Lissepian gun smuggler delivering stolen photon launchers to the Maquis in the DMZ reported in its log diverting itsflight path to avoid a battle-scarred Ambassador class vessel flying at the edge of their scan, on the fringe of the Hugora Nebula... but without any warp power output or signature and emitting an eerie echoing call. The log was deemed that of a sensor ghost but space legends of the starship Artemis flying around in an eternal patrol to guard the Federation from unseen enemies until the end of time still live to this day.

She was found in 2408 (stardate 85756.6) hidden within the hollowed out core of an asteroid, in a docking facility apparently designed specifically for the Artemis. She was removed from her resting place, and was brought home to a hero's welcome for restoration.

Starfleet Command does not aknowledge any of the conflicting rumors about the crew being found, either alive or dead, or not at all, when the ship herself was discovered. 

In 2410, (stardate 87161.4) she was assigned to Lotus Fleet and the Tri-border, "to a place and time in which the Federation once again has need of a Stalwart Guardian."

Initially launched under the command of veteran ship commander Kevin Froud, an undetected Cardassian booby trap left on board killed him before departure for an emergency rescue mission, forcing Andorian First Officer Kheren to assume command. The rescue mission brought about the discovery of the Azimuth Horizon anomaly and the access to a pocket universe ti guarded.

A month later (Stardate 87239.3),the Artemis was launched, this time under the command of newly field promoted Captain Kheren, to study further the anomaly but, noticing a peculiar effect on it, discovered the presence of a never before detected cloaked Dyson Shell within Federation Space, one inhabited by an advanced race of peaceful Avian sentient humanoids that were already under siege by both the phenomenon and an incursive Klingon squadron. The Artemis succeeded in chasing off the invaders and make successful first contact with the X'Ell, helping them survive a brush with the nearby anomaly and ensure their safety afterwards.

A week after returning from their meeting with the X'Ell (Stardate 87260.9), the Artemis was secretly requisitionned by retired Admiral Sean Kirkpatrick for a covert mission in the Mutara sector. Details remain classified but a take over attempt by a fanatical group beleiving the Azimuth Horizon to be a doorway to paradise revealed the admiral to be an imposter; in truth, the genius creator of a defective AI on board a lost warship. Both he and the cultists were stopped by the crew of the Artemis and, coincidentally, the disappearances of ships within the Mutara nebula ceased at this point.

Afterwards, the Artemis was then once again sent to study in depth the Azimuth Horizon phenomena (Stardate 87466.5) and returned a week later with substantial data needed to prepare Lotus Fleet,s operation to counter this cosmic-scaled coming catastrophy.

On Stardate 87505.5, the starship Artemis destroyed the invading Romulan Scimitar class dreadnought IRW Shavok, but in the process sacrificed it's stardrive section in a surprise ramming attack. The saucer section went on through a slingshot looping maneuver around the remaining microsingularity from the wreckage to reach the Azimuth Horizon anomaly in time to extinguish it's dreaded plasma fire; again, at the cost of the ship herself but for it's bridge module and the few shuttles still on board.

The Stalwart Guardian of the Federation was officially declared lost but with all hands safe and sound on Stardate 87510.9, alas this time for good. The USS Artemis is now part of Federation History and Starfleet proudest remembrances as one of the many major sacrifices of Lotus Fleet to save our universe.

The refit teams assigned to the USS Artemis were tasked with upgrading the vessel for modern day use, while retaining the look of the original ship's exterior. As such, the team eschewed the now-standard Zhukov variant details in all areas except the unavoidable impulse engines, which had been damaged beyond repair.

Some later upgrades and modifications were implemented by the current crew and officers of the ship while serving in Lotus Fleet.

USS Artemis Upgrade notes:



Phaser arrays were updated to Type X, first introduced with the Galaxy-class. (Originally Type IX)

Burst fire photon torpedo launchers were standard on Ambassador-class vessels. "Burst fire" indicates the ability to fire 5 torpedoes at a time. There is one pair of tubes situated fore, and one tube situated aft. All are masked by retractable cowls reducing the threat signature of the vessel. A full payload of quantum torpedoes have been added to the standard one of photon warheads.

Refit teams avoided touching the sensor dome, beyond repairing the damage inflicted upon it, however they did upgrade several other sensor palettes located around the ship.

During 2nd mission, Chief of Science Syntron adapted the deflector dish to emit an inverted ionic pulse able to close subspace fractures and collapse spacetime anomalies.

During 3rd mission, Chief of Science Syntron modified the main deflector dish to serve also as a tachyon sonar able to scan even through dense nebula interference or for subspace anomalies and cloaked ships

Refit teams additionally upgraded all Science Labs to current Starfleet Standard. This has allowed the team to repurpose two labs, one as a holodeck, the other as a limited-holography Astrometrics lab. (see: Star Trek: Generations)

Sickbay has undergone a full renovation, as a hull breach and EPS explosions had destroyed the previous one. 4 brand new biobeds, with an additional one set aside in an isolation ward. Holoemitters have been installed, allowing for the operation of the ship's brand new EMH.Holoemitters installed throughout the ship with the new Starfeet protocols hardwiring safety limitations making it impossible to bypass them.

Upgraded bridge science station. In conjunction with other Science upgrades, the Artemis is rated at 120% scientific capability when compared to the original Galaxy-class' 100%.

Upgraded bridge auxillary station. With a quick menu choice and proper authorizations, the station can now be configured to operate as any other bridge station, as well as Engineering. This console can also be configured to support any other bridge station.

Installed Chief Medical Officer's station, to the right of the Captain's chair. This station is in the testing phase, it is meant to allow the Chief Medical Officer to efficiently coordinate with the Chief of Security at the Tactical station and their respective teams. The console physically resembles the Tactical station, and can be reconfigured to other advisory stations, such as Diplomatic Advisory or Councillor. Field test successful; CMO chair now to be further tested with the entire complement of Lotus Fleet ships.

By the end of the 2nd mission, Dr Josiah Sage implemented the emergency medical transporter code Omega Lamda 3 which prioritize immediate site to site transport of a patient with the CMO to sickbay emergency ward and alert it for incoming casualty.

Installed First Officer's chair, to the left of the Captain's chair, a feature also in the testing phase. It is meant to allow the First Officer the ability to call up important mission details while stationed next to the Captain. In a pinch, the First Officer station's small, PADD-like display can be reconfigured to perform any other bridge station's functions at a limited capacity. This display's vertical mount is built into the right side armrest, with a pivot to allow the Captain to see the data, or to fold down into the armrest when not in use.

Captain's chair destroyed by the sabotage at launch replaced by a 23rd century Constitution class-style one at captain's request, so that it can allow him to pivot and face every station on the bridge; the control panels on it however are 25th century ones.

Starboard nacelle and strut entirely replaced. When the Artemis was found, she was missing the nacelle, and the strut was heavily damaged.
The new impulse engines are optimized for high efficiency at low settings. At these low speeds, the Artemis is much more agile than the much larger Galaxy-class. The Artemis is rated at 250% Combat Maneuverabilty when compared to the original Galaxy-class' 100%.

During the shakedown cruise of the maiden voyage, acting Chief Engineer Marksus Sangliar refined the intermix formula to upgrade emergency warp speed to Warp 9.6 indefinitely, as the remade engine is the same as of a modern Sovereign class, capable of producing enough power for a 12hrs sustained speed of Warp 9.98; since the original structural integrity of the ship can not wisthand it, it leaves ample spare power for other systems.

During second mission, Chief Engineer N'Eligahn Etarudbo implemented the La Forge program 1, giving metaphasic shielding to the ship and all auxilliary crafts including the bridge module.

After this same 2nd mission, the Bridge Module has been also upgraded with all the capabilities of a class XI shuttle, including warp 6 capability, 4 phaser V arrays, 2 microtorpedo tubes, a universal magnaclamp and an added multipurpose emitter.

At the same time, a class XI shuttle replaced the lost Class VIII shuttlecraft as the new Arrow 9.
A second class XI shuttle also replaced class VI Arrow 8 after 3rd mission.

Before the maiden voyage, Chief Engineer A. T. Jackson brought on board his own invention of the Personal Inertial Dampener (PID) as a safety harness for every individual on board when ship dampening field might fail.

Command Department Operation

4 shifts implemented instead of the standard 3 to have command officers overlap two shifts with a standard 8 hours work shift and have them available to more personnel. It also throws out of synch the ship roster to throw off attempts at disruption of ship workings.

The captain overseeing senior officers and junior officers allows him a better overview of his crew and for his crew to better know him.


General Notes:
1- Ranking duty officer to main bridge. Captain leads Alpha Shift first half with Executive officer leading second half. All senior officers and department chiefs on the bridge.
2- Executive officer leads first half of Beta Shift, then second half lead by a designated officer in command training. Senior assistant officers of each department on the bridge.
3- Designated officer leads first half of Gamma Shift then second half lead by lower ranking officer in command training. DEpartment designates officers on bridge duty.
4- Designated lower ranking command trainee leads first half of Delta Shift, then second half is taken over by the captain. Department junior officers on the bridge.

In case of Yellow alert, First officer is called to lead the bridge. Captain on standby unless decides to take the lead. All department heads on standby, their chief asistants to the bridge unless the head decides to lead from there.

In case of red Alert, Captain is called to lead from the bridge with Executive officer also reporting to the bridge. All department heads called to the bridge with their 1st assistants.

*By tradition, CMOs are never designated by their rank and, whatever their rank, never assigned command duties even when all senior officers are otherwise unavailable, as their heavy load of duties and training leaves little time for command training and actual experience.

However, the attrition of officers after the Borg War is forcing a review of this time-honored policy; the addition of the CMO Command chair on the bridge (first tested on the Artemis) has been therefore aimed at providing the CMO of a ship the efficient means to both still perform his duties and acquire the actual bridge training and experience needed to now be included in the chain of command of a starship.

When of the same rank, seniority traditionally determines who is first (who became Lieutenant first between 2 Lieutenants for example); then experience, especially command experience, should determine who comes first. A captain might decide this experience is more important than rank seniority but not rank level (a Commander can not take orders from a Lieutenant-Commander). Experience is usually part of rank; hence the problem with officers promoted too fast... or what is called "desk promoted"=without actual field experience...

When all is equal, the dept most susceptible to affect the entire ship, or providing most all around ship knowledge, should help chose who is best to fall in line first.

Depending on ship and ship parameters/overall mission profile, this could be different from one ship to the next (a combat vessel should need more its tactical officer for example). Ultimately, it is up to the captain's judgment as who is best to put in charge first between equally experienced officers, as the captain can name anyone (even the janitor) in command while he is away, regardless even of rank or of this chain of command! (master after God)

A wise captain should be careful with this sort of liberty however, for obvious reasons.

SECURITY PROTOCOLS

Access to all Starfleet data and material is highly regulated. A standard set of access levels have been programmed into the computer cores of all ships in order to stop any undesired access to confidential data and sensitive areas or equipement.

Security levels are also variable, and task-specific. Certain areas of the ship are restricted to unauthorized personnel, regardless of security level. Security levels can also be raised, lowered, or revoked by Command personnel.

Security levels in use aboard starships and Starfleet installations are:

Level 10 – Captain and Above
Level 9 – First Officer
Level 8 - Commander 
Level 7 – Lt. Commander 
Level 6 – Lieutenant 
Level 5 – Lt. Junior Grade (minimum rank for dept heads)
Level 4 - Ensign (minimum rank for access to restricted areas like bridge)
Level 3 – Non-Commissioned Crew (minimum rank for restricted access to specifically authorized ship systems)
Level 2 – Civilian Personnel (assigned to the ship's non-restricted areas and systems in a defined limited capacity)
Level 1 – Open Access

Note: Security Levels beyond current rank can and are bestowed where, when and to whom they are necessary and for the duration needed by Command personnel only (level 9 and above).


ACCESS SYSTEM

All ship systems are keyed for ship personnel, identified by computer visual recording, voiceprint and combadge signal. Discrepancy in any of those three elements prevents using any unauthorized ship system (i.e. only Ensigns and above can access restricted areas like bridge or main engineering). Even doors and turbolifts will not respond to unauthorized access or use request.

Controls are also encoded to the proper personnel according to rank, position and duty shift. Main controls also require entering a personal code which will be accepted under the same conditions so that, for example, an engineering petty officer can not enter main engineering if he is not on duty, can not activate propulsion system controls if not assigned to propulsion, and has no code to shut down or start the engines.

COMMAND CODES
All ship functions are tied to command codes. Each officer has access codes that can be input verbally and on a keypad and they are tied to other identification protocols like combadge signal, voiceprint and visual recording and, in certain circumstances, also require additional verification like additional command code, retina scan and DNA identification. 

Each department chief has command codes that override any other in their department and access control functions not allowed to others. 

The codes of a person put in charge of ship command overrides any other access code even of higher ranks, except that of the Captain and the Executive officer's.

The command codes of the Chief Science Officer, Chief Engineer, First Officer and Captain alone can access the main computer matrix.

The command codes of the Chief Engineer, Chief of Operations, First Officer and Captain alone can access the dillithium chamber and warp core.

In specifically established security matters (i.e. opening locked doors, shutting down warp core), the command codes of the chief of security can override all other codes.

In specifically established medical matters (i.e. opening locked doors, emergency transport of wounded), the command codes of the Chief Medical Officer can override all other codes.

The Executive officer's codes override all codes on board except those of the captain.

The captain codes override any other code and are primary compulsory directives to the computer and all systems on board. On the Artemis, Captain Kheren's codes are also in his native Andorian Graalek, including ultrasonic syllables the computer can recognize within his voiceprint and which usual recording devices will not register. 

All command codes are changed before each new assignment and after each specific situation warranting such a change (i.e. boarding attempt, visitor leaving). They are automatically nullified if the officer is recorded as abducted, dead or otherwise compromized and representing a potential security risk upon his return. Security protocols of identification and reinstatement are implemented upon confirmed return before new codes are allowed to the officer and activated.

No personnel not assigned to the specific ship can have or use any valid code unless authorized and given by the Captain of Executive officer and can be revoked by them instantly and will be limited to specific accessibilities. Any department chief can block such code until confirmation is given of authenticity regarding their own department accesses. Thus, A Federation representative can be given access to the bridge but will not be able to activate consoles or order the computer, with any such attempt easily overriden by authorized personnel.

SHIP TRANSPONDER PREFIX CODES 

Available only to Starfleet Command, Lotus Fleet Command and restricted to security 10 and above (minimum Starfleet rank of Captain). Their function is for Friend & Foe Identification and preventing remote access to ship systems by unauthorized personnel. Understandably, they can not therefore be read from sensor probing and not accepted from ships, installations or signals not of Starfleet, and are regularly changed, automatically so if ship command personnel are compromized. The captain can instantly override it if an unauthorized attempt of use is made as long as his status and identity are confirmed.




A FEW COMMAND PREROGATIVES AND OBLIGATIONS

From STARFLEET GENERAL ORDERS

General Order 6
The request for emergency assistance from Federation citizenry demands unconditional priority from Starfleet personnel. Such personnel shall immediately respond to said request, postponing all other activities.

General Order 8 
Upon sighting a warship within Federation space and identifying it as belonging to a foreign power, the commander of the Starfleet vessel shall determine the reason(s) for that craft's presence in the vicinity. If there is conclusive evidence that the vessel has hostile intentions, the Federation vessel may take appropriate action to safeguard the lives and property of Federation members. In such cases, the commander may use his discretion in deciding whether to use force to disable the hostile vessel. However, care should be taken to avoid unnecessary loss of sentient life.

General Order 9
No commander of a Starfleet vessel, military or auxiliary, may grant political asylum to any individual without first being given express permission to do so by a representative of the Federation government. 

General Order 11
Starfleet officers with the rank of captain or higher are granted full authority to negotiate conditions of agreement and/or treaties with legal representatives of non-Federation planets. In such circumstances, the acting officer carries de facto powers of a Federation Special Ambassador. Any and all agreements arranged in this manner are subject to approval by the Chief of Starfleet Operations and the Secretary of Starfleet. 

General Order 17
Starfleet vessel captains are to consider the lives of their crew members as sacred. In any potentially hostile situation, the captain will place the lives of his crew above the fate of his ship. 

General Order 23
When verifiable proof is presented to the senior commanding officer of a Starfleet vessel or post that a Federation representative may currently be acting or have acted in the past to violate the Prime Directive, the officer may relieve said representative of office, then assume the full powers of that office pending a full investigation by governmental officials. 

General Order 24
If a commanding officer deems that an individual or group of individuals pose a direct threat to the safety of Starfleet personnel, Federation citizens, or those under current Federation protection, the commanding officer may take any actions necessary to safeguard the lives of those threatened. In such cases, the commander may use their discretion in deciding whether to use force. However, care should be taken to avoid unnecessary loss of sentient life.

General Order 26
No member of a ship's complement or other ground-based installation can be held directly accountable for the actions of their superiors. Similarly, no member of a ship's company or other Starfleet personnel will share in disciplinary measures taken against the commanding officer(s) if said individuals were not directly involved in the actions leading to disciplinary measures. This order extends to conditions involving proven violations of the Prime Directive, where proof of such violations exist. 

General Order 28 
No officer of command rank shall be removed from command status unless such action has the complete and unqualified agreement of at least three senior officers present. Whenever possible, such officers shall include the ship's First Officer, Chief Medical Officer, Counselor, and one junior officer of command station. 

General Order 29
The primary responsibility of the commander of any Starfleet vessel or installation is the welfare and safety of his crew, including any civilian members. No action may be taken that creates an unwarranted threat to the safety of those individuals under the officer's charge, except in the line of duty and when otherwise unavoidable. 

General Order 30 
Starfleet Command recognizes the right of each ship commander to interpret the specifications of the Prime Directive as he sees fit, consistent with the conditions of other existing general orders in effect, and based upon circumstances that may arise in dealing with newly discovered sentient races

General Order 34
All Starfleet personnel and/or Federation civilian contractors shall follow a superior's order to the best of their ability, unless said orders should conflict with the regulation laid out in these orders. Special dispensations are granted in emergency situations as per specific orders, with the exceptions of General Orders 1, 2, 3, and 7.

General Order 38
In the event of the death, absence, or incapacitation of the commanding officer of record, command of a ship or installation falls to the next highest-ranking crew member, regardless of position in the command structure. When two officers in the line of succession are of comparable rank, command first falls upon the officer with command experience; barring that requirement, command will fall upon the officer with seniority.

General Order 40 
Except in the case of an extreme emergency, no Starfleet commander is authorized to order his ship to travel faster than Warp Factor Five without express permission from Starfleet Command. Ship classes officially designed and registered as proven to be able to use warp travel without damaging subspace are exempt from this directive.
Note: The USS Artemis refitted warp engine is of the latest design and is exempt from this directive.

General Order 00 : The Omega Directive
This directive supercedes and nullifies all other directives including the Prime Directive.
All Starfleet personnel and vessels, under any and all circumstances, must ensure the destruction of any Omega molecule detected, taking all the necessary precautions to ensure the safe disposal of the said substance and thus the safety of the sector where it is encountered. The use of the Omega molecule, either in research or in application, is strictly forbidden without the express permission and direct supervision of the Federation Science Council. Failure to comply with this directive will call an immediate court martial and, above and beyond the sentence of the Court, permanent demotion and expulsion from Starfleet for both the commanding officer and crew of the guilty starship or facility. The guilty party will also be liable to legal prosecution by the Federation’s Judiciary. Any non-aligned entity possessing or using the Omega molecule is hereby declared a criminal under Interstellar Law and treated accordingly by all Starfleet personnel.

Official procedure is as follow: 
1- contact Starfleet Command under closed, encoded channel code Omega
2- erase any and all computer log relating to Omega event 
3- return to previous assignment. Omega team will then take charge of the situation.

USS Artemis Bridge Layout (original) 
This is the bridge of the USS Artemis, circa 2351. The Captain's chair is situated center as is traditional, with Tactical and Helm forward of it. There is an additional console directly below them.

Ops, Engineering, and Science stations stand amongst the aft bridge stations. The starboard side door leads to the main turbolift, while the port side leads to a hallway containing the Captain's Ready Room, the Briefing Room, and an additional turbolift.

Renovations to the Artemis Bridge as of 2409 include a First Officer's chair to the right of the Captain, a Chief Medical Officer's chair to the left of the Captain (reconfigurable for other roles, such as Diplomatic Advisor), and chairs for all stations. The forward most station has been upgraded to be a multi-purpose station. A quick menu click is all one needs to change the station to either support or take over (with proper command codes) any other station on the bridge.

Since launch, a major upgrade of the bridge has been made to bring the modular capability of the detachable module up to current technology (see below):

Ambassador-class vessels are equipped with a detachable Main Bridge: an ejectable module, allowing for a wider variety in mission parameters as an auxiliary spacecraft used for special exploration,diplomatic or emergency missions and situations. Much larger then a shuttlecraft, this module is mounted topside of the ship's saucer section like all Federation starship bridges where it remains docked during normal operations. It predates the saucer seper system of the following Galaxy class and the later concept of the multivector assault mode of the Prometheus design.

The Main Bridge is a highly restricted area; only Level 4 security clearance personnel (Officers with the Rank of Ensign or Higher) and authorized bridge personnel are allowed on the bridge. All bridge officers have access to a small armory on the bridge that carries both type I and type II phasers.

Access is provided through a manual entry hatch affixed next to the main viewer and through both turbolifts wich becomes automated airlocks when in separation mode. Ten EVA suits are also stored in a compartment near the main turbolift. The addition of a small 2-person transporter pad in the conference room also allow further egress and access.

It is essentially divided into two decks, with the bottom deck housing a toroidal driver coil-based impulse propulsion system, four connectors acting as landing legs for planetary landings, a series of aerodyne motors for atmospheric as well as fuel and maintenance access to various subsystems. It has no offensive systems but a full array of defenses, including the thickened armoring found on all vital areas of the original  design.

Manned by the bridge crew, the habitable deck houses the deck, the conference room converted into the flight crew bunks and galley and the captain's ready room as his personnal quarters and command /meeting center. The module is especially designed so that it can be launched from its parent ship at speeds as high as Warp 7. A deflector system and onboard sensor pallets make the craft suitable for short-range travel as it caries few reserves and converting ressources (merely two small replicators) due to space limitations. The forward multitask console right before the main viewer allows even a single person to fully man the module alone.

Upgrades to the module, like adding warp capability and a two-person short-range transporter system similar to what is aboard shuttlecrafts, have been initally scrapped when the Ambassador class was prematurely retired to use its tremendous success with new technologies to bring about the Galaxy class. Studies in warp-capable bridge modules at the time failed basic objective requirements due to the amount of internal reworking caused by the additional hardware, as well as sacrifices in terms of craft internal space and mass in relation to the original starship frame. Experimentation with membrane-based warp coils, as well as deployable warp nacelles, similar to the Sovereign-class Captain's Yacht and the primary hull of the Prometheus class were not yet implemented when production of the Ambassador class was interrupted.

Following the second mission of the refited USS Artemis where the Bridge Module's limitation were highlighted, it was immediately upon return to Starbase 10 refited with recent shuttle technology: hull integrated membrane warp coil and nacelles, miniaturized warp core, micro torpedo launchers, phaser arrays and small transporter, even an aft multipurpose emitter were all added to give back to the Aegis the purpose to wich it had always been intended from initial design; to act as a supplementary starship for the main frame. Shields were also upgraded with the LaForge metaphasic program 1 and the old mechanical coupling replaced with a modern magnaclamp one to make room for the added warp and offensive capabilities.

The Primary operational control of the , the main bridge, is located at the top of the primary hull (saucer section) or Deck 1. 

There is an auxillairy control room on deck 5 that can assume all bridge functions in case of the main bridge becoming inoperative. It can only be activated by the highest officer present on board the ship through computer security multi-level indentification including security codes.

The Main Bridge directly supervises all primary mission operations (with the exception of the Flight bay and assorted craft) and coordinates all departmental activities.

There are two turbolifts on the bridge that can handle normal transit around the starship. There is also an emergency ladder that connects the bridge to Deck 3. There is a door, on the aft platform of the bridge, that leads to the Conference Room, which is directly aft of the Main Bridge besides the Captain's Ready Room. Both are accessible via the second turbolift without the need to go through the bridge.

There are no escape pods connected to the bridge itself. Pods are located on all decks below Deck 3. Each pod can support two people for 4 hours in space, and has a maximum speed of half impulse. Two pods are reserved for the top four officers in the chain of command on the starship, because they are the last four to leave the ship. These are located on Deck 2. 

As the number of experienced Captains dwindles in Starfleet, the antique navy notion of a Captain going down with his ship has been abolished. The top four officers in the chain of command will wait until everyone else is off the ship, opt to arm the auto-Destruct if needed, and then leave in those escape pods.

The Main Bridge is a highly restricted area; only Level 4 security clearance personnel (Officers with the Rank of Ensign or Higher) and authorized bridge personnel are allowed on the bridge. 

All bridge officers have access to a small armory on the bridge that carries both type I and type II phasers. They are conveniently located in push-open drawers a each station on the side of the console itself or under each one of the 3 command chairs. The compartment also contains the new Personal Inertial Dampeners (PID) and hyposprays with stimulants and sedatives ready, a feature dating back to the original era of the Artemis when EMH were not yet available.(note that the ones under the captain's chair have a needle as conventional hyposprays do not penetrate Andorian chitinous skin).

The Main Bridge is an ejectable module, allowing for a wider variety in mission parameters. It is obviously the precursor of the saucer seper functionality of the following Galaxy class model, itself forerunner to the Multi Vector Assault Mode of the latest Prometheus class. The saucer section of the can detach in dire emergencies and move with thrusters and the initial ship's momentum; but, unlike the bridge module, it cannot reattach without the assistance of a starbase or shipyard.

Because of it's topmost location were the highest ranking officers command the entire ship, the bridge of the USS Artemis has been nicknamedOlympus, in reference to the ancient Greek paradise atop a mountain where the gods like Artemis ruled the mortal world.

MAIN ENGINEERING

Deck 21, access to almost all systems aboard the starship, manages repairs, power flow, and general maintenance. Access is highly restricted, being the most sensitive area of the ship after the main bridge. Only officers with security access clearance 4 or higher (Ensign and above) and ship-registered engineering personnel may access this section. Any unlisted personnel, even starbase technical personnel and officers, must get permission from the Chief Engineer, the Chief of Security, the First Officer or the Captain to enter the area.

Entrance to Main Engineering is by two large blast doors that can be closed for internal or external security reasons.

Crescent-shaped observation area where technicians monitor various systems of the ship.

Floor-mounted situational display similar to the Master Systems Display on the Bridge. 

Farther in from the observation area is the warp core and main control systems. The semi-circular room is designed to be small but exceedingly functional to save space and promote efficiency, especially under alert conditions. Usable consoles mounted on every system around the room provide primary control access for engineers and technicians.
Off to the port side of Main Engineering is the Chief Engineer’s Office, equipped with a diagnostics table, assembly and repair equipment, a small replicator, and a personal use console with built-in private viewscreen.

In the center of Main Engineering is the Matter/Anti-Matter Assembly (M/ARA) where primary power for the ship is generated in the Matter/Anti-Matter Reaction Chamber (M/ARC) checked on a regular basis. Access is restricted, with front port to the Dilithium matrix and over side port for access to warp plasma conduits.

A second tier rings the second level of Main Engineering. A small single-person elevator, as well as a ladder on the opposite end, provides access.
Access to the Jefferies Tubes is provided in various places on both the First and Second Tier of Main Engineering.

Typical crew compliment in Main Engineering consists of 30 engineers and 40 technicians of various grades. During Red or Yellow Alert, that number is increased.

All engineers and technicians fully trained in EVA suits and workbees operations with periodical competence check every 6 months in holodeck simulations.

There is one impulse engine on the upper neck that can propel the at a maximum of .25c (full impulse), due to time dilation problems. Quarter impulse is rated at .0625c, half impulse being .125c The efficiency of the system, coupled with the advanced thrusters specific for this class, makes the ship distinctively more maneuverable than others of comparable mass or greater (rated 250% maneuverability compared to the following generation Galaxy class)

REACTION CONTROL SYSTEM

Second generation 5 magnetohydrodynamic gas-fusion thrusters, developed specifically for the starship. 
Each thruster quad can produce 4 million Newtons of exhaust.

ENERGY RESERVES

Accumulators and rechargeable batteries are distributed throughout all key systems of the ship. They can be coupled, rerouted, bypassed or isolated from any engineering control station under the overall control of the bridge engineering station, the auxillary control room or the main control station in engineering, in that order.
These are constatly kept fully charged by residue energy from both impulse and warp engines or by the reactors when both systems are otherwise inoperative or fully sollicitated.

Batteries will become automatically active if all other systems are inoperative. Life support systems and ship's automated disaster beacon are priorized by an integrated hard-wired program that cannot be bypassed in the advent when no other system can provide for environemental controls. Only residual energy can then be allocated from the batteries to other systems, if any.
The automatic disaster beacon will start broadcasting if ony the batteries are left as a power source, unless deactivated by the proper command codes.



SECURITY PROTOCOLS
- During yellow alert, all safety measures on stand by; power allocation fully under bridge control with engines, shields and weapons prioritize in that order. Life support priority is hardwire in the system and can not be overriden except under captain's orders. hazard suits and damage control parties (in suits) on standby.
- During red alert, forcefield covers warp core, ejection system on standby. blast doors close and all engineering personnel wears hazard suits with rebreather. 33% of personnel are assigned solely for damage control duties.
-As part of their basic duty, all ship engineering personnel will apply the following routine to all ship systems:
Level 1 diagnostics at docking/undocking. Systems are put offline and dismantled for servicing and checking with a thorough visual, tricorder and computer testing before and after the physical work. It takes a full day's work of the entire departement,s complement to be completed.
Level 2 diagnostics once every shipboard day, during orbit or after any major event on board. Systems are taken offline in sequence to keep ship in nominal operating status with full tricorder and computer testing after the physical servicing is done but without actual dismantling of the system, taking a few hours for the whole ship.
Level 3 diagnostics once every shift. A tricorder diagnostics of each system in addition to the standard computerized one. The system is not put offline and the whole work takes a few minutes.
Level 4 diagnostics once every hour. A thorough computer check up taking 30 seconds to complete.
Level 5 diagnostics once every start and ending of a shift and at random during the shift. A standard computer check taking a few seconds to complete.

All systems and decks accessible through a web of Jeffries tubes between the hulls and deck levels. Engineers and technicians are required to know the layout of those workspaces as well as those of the decks proper.

Regular training required to ensure that all engineering personnel can quickly and easily reach any part of the ship even when powered transportations are inoperative.

OPERATIONAL SYSTEMS

Tractor beams:

Type:Multiphase subspace graviton beam for direct manipulation of objects from a submicron to a macroscopic level at any relative bearing to the starship. Each emitter directly mounted to the primary members of the ship's framework, to lessen the effects of isopiestic subspace shearing, inertial potential imbalance, and mechanical stress.

Output:Each emitter built around 3 multiphase 15 MW graviton polarity sources, each feeding a pair of 475 millicochrane subspace field amplifiers. Phase accuracy is within 1.3 arc-seconds/microsecond, giving superior interference pattern control. Each emitter can gain extra power from the SIF by means of molybdenum-jacketed waveguides. Subspace fields around the beam can envelop objects up to 920 meters, lowering the local gravitational constant of the universe for the region inside the field, making it much easier to manipulate.

Range:varies with payload mass and desired delta-v (change in relative velocity). Assuming a nominal 15 m/sec-squared delta-v, the multiphase tractor emitters can be used with a payload approaching 116,380,000,000 metric tons at less than 2,000 meters. Conversely, the same delta-v can be imparted to an object massing about one metric ton at ranges approaching 30,000 kilometers.

Secondary purpose:Tactical; pushing enemy ships into each other. Countering ramming attacks, immobilizing LTL missiles, moving spatial objects to shield the hull.

MISSION TYPES

Ship operations fall under one of three categories:

Operations: all tasks relating tirectly to the function of the ship itself, include power generation, upkeep, environmental systems, and any other maintained and used to keep the vessel spaceworthy.

Primary Mission Operations: all tasks assigned and directed from the Main Bridge wich require full control and discretion over ship navigation and resources.

Secondary Mission Operations: all tasks not under the direct control of the Main Bridge, or that do not impact Primary Mission Operations.* Include long-range cultural, diplomatic or scientific programs run by independent or semi-autonomous groups aboard.

The*Ambassador*Class is classified as a multi-role Starship, in keeping with Federation Council Policy.*This offers the Federation flexibility in assigning it nearly any objective within the realm of Starfleet's assigned duties.

Missions may fall into one of the following, in order of importance as stated by Starfleet Policies:

Federation Policy and Diplomacy: used as an envoy during deep-space operations.

Emergency/Search and Rescue: include answering standard Federation emergency beacons, extraction of Federation or Non-Federation citizens in distress, retrieval of Federation or Non-Federation spacecraft in distress, small-scale planetary evacuation

Deep-space Exploration: long-range interstellar survey and mapping missions of a wide variety of planetary classifications and interstellar phenomenas.

Contact with Alien Lifeforms: use of various xenobiological suites, and small cultural anthropology staff, allowing for limited deep-space life form study and interaction.

Ongoing Scientific Investigation:*scientific laboratories and a wide variety of sensor probes and sensor arrays to perform a wide range of ongoing scientific investigations.

Tactical/Defensive Operations: include patrolling, interdiction, or protecting any Federation interest from hostile intent in planetary or interstellar conflicts.

Operating protocols
Normal operations are conducted in accordance with a variety of Starfleet standard operating rules, determined by the current operational state of the starship.* These are determined by the Commanding Officer, although in certain specific cases, the Computer can automatically adjust to a higher alert status.

Operating modes are:

Cruise Mode (standard ship operations excluding tactical/defensive operations)

Yellow Alert (apprehended danger to ship and crew or near hazardous conditions)

Red Alert (immediate danger to ship and crew or entering hazardous conditions)

Condition Blue or External Support Mode (on approach to starbase, space station, shipyards etc)

Reduced Power Mode (in dock)



OPS SECURITY PROTOCOLS

- All accesses to the ship will be under computer surveillance at all times. 
- Only ship board transportation modes and equipement will have access to the ship, under control by ship personnel. 
- If exceptional circumstances forces the use of external modes, they will be done by ship personnel only and under ship security supervision. 
- Scanning and decontamination protocols effective at all times including while in transporter transit. 
- Confirmation of entities and material coming on board to be verified and approved by Captain or First officer and Chief of Security. 
- During yellow alert, all major accesses (shuttlebays, transporter rooms) and restricted areas (bridge, auxilliary control room, main engineering, weapon control rooms, transporter rooms etc) under living guard and manned by ops personnel. Ship operations under listed shift officers control only. 
- Shuttle transporters will be deactivated when specific craft not in use.
- During red alert, all accesses (including airlocks) are also under live guard and locked shut. Ship operations under bridge officers control only.
- Ops personnel will secure transporters, cargo bay, communications systems, and shuttle bay as assigned by Chief Operations Officer or Chief Security Officer, ensuring that these systems remain secure and functioning during the alert.
- Batteries are fully allocated for antiboarding protocols and life support.
- Ops personnel with the appropriate cross-training will assist each of the other department in conducting their security schedule to allow it without interfering with normal ship operations.
- At least 33% of the ship complement will be cross-trained in Operations to ensure a skeleton crew will be always available to operate the ship in catastrophic situations.
- 33% of ops personnel are certified as engineers or technicians; 33% are certfied scientists or medics; 33% are certified security or pilots. bridge officers must be cross-trained in at least two of those categories.
- As part of their basic duty, the ops dept will apply the following routine:
Assist security schedule at docking/undocking or orbital period and after each major incident on board (see security dept)
Assist Medical schedule once every shipboard day (see Medical dept) 
Assist Science schedule once every shift (see Science dept)
Assist Flight control schedule once every hour.(see Flight control dept).
Assist Engineering schedule once every start and ending of a shift and at random during the shift (see engineering dept)


General Orders, Starfleet Regulations and ship rules are to be followed at once and without fail by any individual on board. Failure to do so will put the individual on report and denied of citation opportunity; repeated or serious failure will also have the individual relieved of duty and removed from failed responsibility, with delay on any promotion; recurent or major failure or disobeying a direct order will also have the individual confined to quarters or to the brig according to what is judged best for the safety of ship and crew for later disciplining according to Starfleet regulations, including denial of promotion;deliberate obstruction or critical failure to follow orders will also see the individual transfered off the ship and possibly demoted of rank, position and cited before a general Court, depending on the nature, severity and consequence of the disobedience.

SHIP FLIGHT PERFORMANCE

MANEUVERABILITY

Known to outclass the best Romulan warships of her era, the Ambassador class can maneuver at impulse speeds as if it was one class lower, as a light cruiser of her era (as a frigate in contemporary setting with the size growth of her current class wich would made her 2 classes lower in 2409).

ATMOSPHERIC FLIGHT

Possible for short duration with thrusters only. Landing will be safe for the crew but cause 45% structural integrity loss, preventing deep space flight but still allowing interplanetary and short stellar travel. 

EMERGENCY SAUCER SEPARATION

In catastrophic emergencies, saucer can house the entire crew and detach to move with impulse (+ 0.25%) and thrusters (maneuverability 2 classes lower) and able to do safe atmospheric flight and landing. Reattachement possible only at a starbase facility. If secondary hull is lost, the ship is officially decommissioned. 


SECURITY PROTOCOLS
- Only command grade officers, assigned certified pilots and assigned flight control personnel are allowed within shuttle bays and at flight controls, outside of authorized mission or transit orders.
- Maintenance and servicing in those areas are under flight control personnel responsibility. Any other personnel is allowed only under verified authorization by the Chief Engineer, the Chief of Security, the Chief of Operations,the First Officer or the Captain.
- All equipement, controls and crafts require an access code and vocal recognition to activate. Recognition below command codes (Captain or First officer or Chief of ops) is accepted only if correct rank and during official shift.
- Shuttle transporters will be deactivated when specific craft not in use.
- A proper flight plan and mission order must be logged by authorized personnel for any control or craft to activate.
- During all docking operations, flight personnel also man the auxiliiary control room on standby as back up in case of navigation problem or failure from the main bridge.
- During yellow alert, one shuttle is prepared for immediate launch with pilot on standby. Shuttle bay access/egress under Chief of Ops control.
- During red alert. all crafts prepared for immediate launch with pilot and security guard on standby. Shuttlebay access/Egress under chief of security control.
- 33% of all ship personnel must be certified as pilots.
- 33% of flight control officers must be certified starship pilots.
-As part of their basic duty, all ship flight control personnel will apply the following routine:
Level 1 servicing at docking/undocking or orbital period and after each major incident on board. It is a complete check up of all vehicles and controls, including bay doors and airlock, evac suits and emergency systems,emergency saucer seper etc... It takes several hours to be completed.
Level 2 servicing once every shipboard day. A live visual and tricorder check up of all vehicles taking a full hour.
Level 3 servicing once every shift. A live visual and tricorder search of all accesses of the ship and a level 3 diagnostics of all vehicles taking fifteen minutes.
Level 4 servicing once every hour. A standard level 2 diagnostics of vehicles, controls and accesses, all of it taking five minutes to complete.
Level 5 servicing once every start and ending of a shift and at random during the shift. A level 1 diagnostics of all vehicles, controls and accesses taking a minute to complete.

All designated flight officers are periodically checked for piloting efficiency once every 6 months on all types of vehicles carried by the ship, and in ship piloting, in holodeck simulation.




AUXILLIARY CRAFTS


The recent refit of the USS Artemis included an upgrade in the standard complement of auxilliary crafts usually found on the Ambassador class.

There are three shuttlebays on the Artemis: 

Shuttlebay 1 is on deck 6 aft of the saucer section and houses the crafts designated as Arrow 1 to 4 and Arrowhead 1, 2 and 5.

Shuttlebay 2 or main shuttle bay is on deck 20 aft of the secondary hullis the largest and houses Arrow 5 to 9 and Arrowhead 6 to 10.

Shuttlebay 3 in the lower aft part of the secondary hull (deck 21) is the smallest where Arrowhead 3 and 12 to 14 are stored.



TYPE-16 SHUTTLEPOD : Arrowhead 1 to 4

Type: Medium short-range sublight shuttle.
Accommodation: Two; pilot and system manager.
Power Plant: Two 750 millicochrane impulse driver engines, four RCS thrusters, four sarium krellide storage cells.
Dimensions: Length, 4.8 m; beam, 2.4 m; height 1.6 m.
Mass: 1.25 metric tones.
Performance: Maximum delta-v, 12,250 m/sec.
Armament: Two Type-IV phaser emitters.

Like the Type-15, the Type-16 Shuttlepod is a two person craft primarily used for short-ranged transportations of personnel and cargo, as well as for extravehicular inspections of Federation starships, stations and associated facilities. 



TYPE-18 SHUTTLEPOD: Arrow 10 to 14

Type: Medium short-range sublight shuttle.
Accommodation: Two; pilot and system manager.
Power Plant: Two 800 millicochrane impulse driver engines, four RCS thrusters, four sarium krellide storage cells.
Dimensions: Length, 4.5 m; beam, 3.1 m; height 1.8 m.
Mass: 1.12 metric tones.
Performance: Maximum delta-v, 16,750 m/sec.
Armament: Three Type-V phaser emitters.

Developed in the mid-2360s, the Type-18 Shuttlepod is somewhat of a departure from the traditional layout for ships of its size. In response to the growing threat of conflicts with various galactic powers bordering or near to the Federation, this shuttlepod was designed to handle more vigorous assignments that still fell into the short-range roles of a shuttlepods. Even with her parent vessel under attack, the Type-18 was designed to function in battle situations and could even be used as an escape vehicle should the need arise. 


TYPE-6 PERSONNEL SHUTTLE Arrow 6 & 7 

Type: Light short-range warp shuttle.
Accommodation: Two flight crew, six passengers.
Power Plant: One 50 cochrane warp engine, two 750 millicochrane impulse engines, four RCS thrusters.
Dimensions: Length, 6.0 m; beam, 4.4 m; height 2.7 m.
Mass: 3.38 metric tones.
Performance: Sustained Warp 3.
Armament: Two Type-IV phaser emitters.


The Type-6 is perhaps the most successful shuttle design to date, and its overall structure and components are the foundations upon which the Type-8, -9, and -10 spaceframes are based.



TYPE-8 PERSONNEL SHUTTLECRAFT: Arrow 3 to 5

Type: Light long-range warp shuttle.
Accommodation: Two flight crew, six passengers.
Power Plant: One 150 cochrane warp engine, two 750 millicochrane impulse engines, four RCS thrusters.
Dimensions: Length, 6.2 m; beam, 4.5 m; height 2.8 m.
Mass: 3.47 metric tones.
Performance: Warp 4.
Armament: Two Type-V phaser emitters.

Based upon the frame of the Type-6, the Type-8 Shuttlecraft is the most capable follow-up in the realm of personnel shuttles. Only slightly larger, the Type-8 is equipped with a medium-range transporter pad (20,000km) and has the ability to travel within a planet’s atmosphere. With a large cargo area that can also seat six passengers, the shuttle is a capable transport craft. Slowly replacing its elder parent craft, the Type-8 is now seeing rapid deployment on all medium to large starships, as well as to Starbases and stations throughout the Federation.It is also the only type of shuttlecraft equiped with a 2-man escape pod for emergency situations.



TYPE-10 PERSONNEL COMBAT SHUTTLECRAFT: Arrow 1 & 2

Type: Heavy long-range warp shuttle.
Accommodation: Two flight crew, two passengers.
Power Plant: One 250 cochrane warp engine, two 800 millicochrane impulse engines, four RCS thrusters.
Dimensions: Length, 9.64 m; beam, 5.82 m; height 3.35 m.
Mass: 19.73 metric tones.
Performance: Warp 5.
Armament: Three Type-V phaser emitters, two micro-torpedo launchers (1 fore and 1 aft, jamming devices.

Developed specifically for the Defiant-class starship project, the Type-10 Personnel Shuttle is the largest departure from the traditional role of an auxiliary craft that Starfleet has made in the past century. Short of a dedicated fighter craft, the Type-10 is one of the most powerful auxiliary ships, with only the bulkier Type-11 being more heavily equipped. Nonetheless, the shuttle sports increased hull armor and the addition of micro-torpedo launchers, as well as a suite of tactical jamming devices. A larger warp coil assembly, as well as torpedo stores, makes the Type-10 much more heavier then other shuttles. Elements from the Defiant-class project that were incorporated into the shuttle include armored bussard collectors, as well as a complex plasma venting system for use during possible warp core breech situations. This bulky craft is equipped with a powerful navigation deflector that allows it to travel at high-warp, and a complex sensor system makes this shuttle suitable for reconnaissance work. Able to hold its own in battle situations, the Type-10 has first seen limited deployment on Defiant-class starships, as well as border patrol vessels and combat-ready ships but is now more widely used in larger ships.

Being very low-hulled for decreased sensor signature, it does not allow occupants to stand up, as they are confined to their cockpit seats, making it quite spartan for long duration travel.


TYPE-11 PERSONNEL ALL PURPOSE SHUTTLECRAFT Arrow 8 & 9

Type: Heavy long-range warp shuttle.
Accommodation: Four flight crew, six passengers.
Power Plant: One 400 cochrane warp engine, two 800 millicochrane impulse engines, four RCS thrusters.
Dimensions: Length, 16 m; beam, 9.78 m; height 4.25 m.
Mass: 28.11 metric tones.
Performance: Warp 6.
Armament: Four Type-V phaser emitters, two micro-torpedo launchers (fore and aft), aft-mounted veritable purpose emitter.

With an ultimate goal towards creating a useful all-purpose shuttlecraft, the designers of the Type-11 Personnel Shuttle set out to create a craft that was equipped with all the systems of a starship within the shell of a relatively small shuttle. Allocation of the larger Danube-class runabout to starships in the field proved too costly, and with the expressed need by the Sovereign-class development team for a capable shuttle, the Type-11 was born. Its overall frame and components are a meshing of lessons learned in both the Type-9 and Danube-class vessels. Impressive shielding, several phaser emitters, micro-torpedo launchers and a capable warp propulsion system makes this shuttle capable of performing a multitude of tasks. Both the ventral and dorsal areas of the shuttle feature a new magnaclamp docking port that is capable of linking up to other ships similarly equipped. A two-person transporter and a large aft compartment with a replicator adds to the shuttle’s versatility. The end hope is that these all-purpose shuttles will replace the more specific-purpose crafts already stationed on starships, reducing the amount of space needed for shuttle storage in already-cramped bays. The Type-11 is now intended to be extensively deployed on modern starships after seeing selective use outside the Sovereign-class to further assess its capabilities in the field.





WORK BEE : Arrowhead 5 to 8

Type: Utility craft.
Accommodation: One operator.
Power Plant: One microfusion reactor, four RCS thrusters.
Dimensions: Length, 4.11 m; beam, 1.92 m; height 1.90 m.
Mass: 1.68 metric tones.
Performance: Maximum delta-v, 4,000 m/sec.
Armament:None

The Work Bee is a capable stand-alone craft used for inspection of spaceborne hardware, repairs, assembly, and other activates requiring remote manipulators. The fully pressurized craft has changed little in design during the past 150 years, although periodic updates to the internal systems are done routinely. Onboard fuel cells and microfusion generators can keep the craft operational for 76.4 hours, and the life-support systems can provide breathable air, drinking water and cooling for the pilot for as long as fifteen hours. If the pilot is wearing a pressure suit or SEWG, the craft allows for the operator to exit while conducting operations. Entrance and exit is provided by the forward window, which lifts vertically to allow the pilot to come and go.

A pair of robotic manipulator arms is folded beneath the main housing, and allows for work to be done through pilot-operated controls. In addition, the Work Bee is capable of handling a cargo attachment that makes it ideal for transferring cargo around large Starbase and spaceborne construction facilities. The cargo attachment features additional microfusion engines for supporting the increased mass.

GYMNASIUM: all security personnel aboard starships are required to train in ancient weaponry to compensate for lack of modern armament and gain experience against foes using such weapons like Klingons and Jem'Hadars.

All personnel are also tested every 6 months in hand to hand combat with the computer combat program wich adapts to every individual and learn from one's own style of fighting.

Security personnel on board the Artemis are also required by the captain to train in knife combat and survival use, tested every 6 months, to have a handy tool in case of minimal survival conditions and if facing archaic situations or weapon-wielding ones.

PHASER RANGE: All personnel aboard starship must maintian a minimum level of 14 (on a scale of 25) of marksmanship with type I and II, except security personnel who must have at least level 17 marksmanship with all types of phaser weapons. 

All personnel are tested once every 6 months on marksmanship

All testing and training are normally provided by the Marines Lead Officer, but can also be given by the Chief of Security/Tactical or any security/tactical officer designated by the chief, according to expertise and as part of their assigned duty.

Escape pods

Aside from shuttlecraft or transporters, the primary survival craft of the is the escape pod. Each ship of this class carries 100 of the 8-person variants, 5.6 meters tall and 6.2 meters along the edge of the triangle. Each supports a full compliment for 8 months, longer if they are connected together. All are equiped with navigational sensors, microthrusters and emergency subspace communication equipment.


SECURITY PROTOCOLS

Ship security supervises and helps in shipwide security procedures to ensure not only the smooth efficiency of all ship operations but that hostile forces can not infiltrate, invade or threaten the ship and crew.

The following are standard security protocols above and beyond Starfleet regulations, ordered by the captain after a terrorist attack. They are performed by each specific relevant department personnel and surpervised or with the assistance of security personnel who will also assume the following responsibilities.

1- Operations dept:
- Security will ensure appropriate Ops security protocols are in effect at all appropriate times. (see Operations department). 
- Chief of security must verify and approve any entity's presence on board with either First Officer or Captain
- Chief of security must verify and approve of any shipment brought on board with either First Officer or Captain. 
- During yellow alert, one guard on each deck and at all major accesses (shuttlebays, transporter rooms) and restricted areas (bridge, auxilliary control room, main engineering, weapon control rooms etc). 
- During red alert, guards are doubled, all accesses (including airlocks) under guard and General Order 15 is in effect on board.
- Security personnel with the appropriate cross-training will assist the ops department in conducting its security schedule to allow it without interfering with normal ship operations.
- 33% of security personnel will be cross-trained in ship operations to assist or replace Ops personnel as needed.

2-  Control dept:
- Security will ensure appropriate Ops security protocols are in effect at all appropriate times. (seeFlight Control department).
- Chief of security must authorize and supervize any approach, docking or boarding of vehicle in and off the ship with either First Officer or captain.
- Security works in team with Flight control officer during all ship flight operations and can take over flight control for any specific necessity or if ordered.
- During yellow alert, flight operations are under direct supervision of security, including shuttle operations. No auxilliary craft can approach or leave without authorization, as per restriction access protocols (see engineering below).
- During red alert, no unauthorized personnel will be allowed near flight control or crafts under restriction protocols (below)
- All security personnel must be certified auxilliary craft pilots.
- All security officers must have at least basic starship flight training.

3- Engineering:
- Security will ensure appropriate Engineering security protocols are in effect at all appropriate times. (see Engineering department). 
- Main engineering is a restricted area at all times (only Ensigns and above and specifically authorized personnel at their approriate time/shift). Restriction is ensured by computer control at all times: the doors will not open for unauthorized individuals and an alert will sound if one appears inside said area. It is supplemented by live watch during any alert status.
- During yellow alert, all major engineering sections (control rooms) similarily restricted. One guard is outside with open security channel.
- During red alert, Every technical section (including fuel tanks) similarily restricted. One guard is inside and another outside with open security channel.
- Security personnel with the appropriate cross-training will assist the engineering department in conducting its security schedule to allow it without interfering with normal ship maintenance.
- 33% of security personnel will be cross-trained as technicians to assist or replace engineering personnel as needed.

4- Medical:
- Security will ensure appropriate Medical security protocols are in effect at all appropriate times. (see Medical department). 
- Replicators in medical are always online even during any alert status, but always restricted to medical functions and under appropriate authorized medical access.
- During yellow alert, security will ensure medical personnel and patients are kept safe and replicators online. One guard will stand outside accesses.
- During red alert, security will convert sickbay into a secured and restricted area, including tricorder surveillance. One guard will stand inside and the other outside every access.
- Security personnel with the appropriate cross-training will assist the medical department in conducting its security schedule to allow it without interfering with normal crew health and care.
- All security personnel must be certified first-aid specialists.
- 33% of security personnel will be cross-trained as medical personnel to assist or replace assigned medical personnel as needed.

5- Science dept:
- Security will ensure appropriate security protocols are in effect at all appropriate times in all science sections. (see science department). 
- During yellow alert, security will have computer core and all sensor systems under direct monitoring.
- During red alert, security will have computer core and sensor systems under restricted access as per engineering above.

6- Security dept:
- No personal weaponry allowed on board without the express authorization of chief of security and the Captain. Use or carrying of such weapon outside the training hall or armory will be only authorized to senior officers and only during red alert or per captain's permission.
- Transporter security lock on any transporting entity carrying a weapon and keeps it in transit until weapon is deactivated, discharged or beamed away before rematerialization.
- All weapons confined to armory and specific secured areas (like bridge seat compartments) and all under genetic encoding (only one specific user can activate it) including locked knife sheaths.
Computer alarm will activate if any unregistered weapon comes on board; security forcefield will isolate weapon and wearer until security deal with the threat.
- Computer alarm will warn of any unauthorized weapon discharge on board and deactivate that specific weapon (each on board weapon registered under security lock code) and security forcefield drops on weapon and wearer until security deals with the threat.
- All accesses can be locked or unlocked by override of vocal command of chief of Security, First Officer, Chief Medical Officer or Captain.
- All antiboarding measures will be online on a continual basis.
-Out of any alert status, all security personnel will be wearing phaser I. No other shipboard personnel is authorized to wear any weaponry.
-During yellow alert, all security personnel will wear Phaser II and combat knife. Officers only are allowed to wear phaser I.
During red alert, all security officers will add phaser III and combat armor. Shipboard personnel will wear phaser I and security personnel and senior officers will carry phaser II with combat knife.
-As part of their basic duty, all ship security personnel will apply the following security routine:
Level 1 search at docking/undocking or orbital period and after each major incident on board. It is a live visual and tricorder painstaking search, centimeter by centimeter, including uninhabitable deck, maintenance conduits and jeffries tubes, of the entire ship for casualties, damage, sabotage, infiltrators etc... It takes several hours to be completed.
Level 2 search once every shipboard day. A live visual and tricorder patrol of all ship areas taking a full hour.
Level 3 search once every shift. A live visual and tricorder search of all main areas of the ship and computer shipwide search taking fifteen minutes.
Level 4 search once every hour. A standard security patrol of restricted areas and a computer shipwide check, all of it taking five minutes to complete.
Level 5 search once every start and ending of a shift and at random during the shift. A specific area computer surveillance check taking a minute to complete.
Only ship security personnel will be autorized to perform this schedule.
- 33% of ship complement will be trained in security, including knife combat training.

General Orders, Starfleet Regulations and ship rules are to be followed at once and without fail by any individual on board. Failure to do so will put the individual on report and denied of citation opportunity; repeated or serious failure will also have the individual relieved of duty and removed from failed responsibility, with delay on any promotion; recurent or major failure or disobeying a direct order will also have the individual confined to quarters or to the brig according to what is judged best for the safety of ship and crew for later disciplining according to Starfleet regulations, including denial of promotion;deliberate obstruction or critical failure to follow orders will also see the individual transfered off the ship and possibly demoted of rank, position and cited before a general Court, depending on the nature, severity and consequence of the disobedience.


Special regulation 6615: Mindsweep
In extreme cases where ship security is definitely threatened and conventional protocols prove to be insufficient, the captain or the First officer can order every telepathic member of the crew for special security duty; opening their minds to flush out any invader or infiltrator on board (including among themselves) and security proceeding with immediate arrest with shoot on sight at stun setting 3.

Procedure of Special Regulation 6615: one telepathic crewmember on each habitable deck and all linked to the Chief counsellor on the bridge, the head of astrometrics in astrometrics and the chief psychiatrist in sickbay. The entire neurogenic net amplifies each other's ability and cover the entire ship (external hull included and possibly some distance outside). They actively search for any mental discrepancy, hostile intent or resistance/cloaking/attack that could reveal the presence of an intruder/enemy.

Suspect captured is then offered to submit to a full telepathic scan for interrogation, or detention in stasis until delivered to proper authorities.



EMERGENCY PROTOCOLS

PERSONAL INERTIAL DAMPENERS (PIDS): a prototype safety harness developped by the first chief engineer of the Artemis, Lieutenant Anthony T. Jackson, it is a portable harness looking and worn like a belt buckle reminescent of the one seen on the old 23rd century uniforms; activated by simple hand pressure, it deploys a crossing belt pattern across the body (much like the Sovereign class Command chair harness that inspired it) and provide a close range personal inertial dampening field to the wearer. This protects the wearer from loss of ship's own inertial dampeners or gravity as if wearing magnetic boots and can even support vital functions in vaccum or hazardous conditions (coolant or radiation leaks etc)for up to 5 minutes. It can also act as a crude armor against blunt trauma and is therefore also incorporated into security armor.

Every station throughout the ship is equiped with one readily available to each crewmember (usually inside the side panel or back of seats).

Rescue and Evacuation Operations fall into one of two categories:

1-RESCUE SCENARIOS

Resources available :
Transport 350 persons/hour via personnel transporters.
Availability of 3 Type 6 shuttlecrafts on hot-standby for immediate launch
All other shuttlecrafts available for launch in an hour's notice. Total transport capabilities of these vary but an average of 150 persons/hour can be offloaded from a standard orbit to a planetary surface.
Up to 4800 evacuees capacity with conversion of the shuttle bays and cargo bays into emergency living quarters.
Ability to convert Holosuites, the Recreation Deck and the Crew Lounge to emergency triage and medical centers.
Ability to convert Cargo Bay 3 to type H,K, or L environments, intended for non-humanoid casualties.

2- Evacuation Scenarios

Environmental Suits available for evacuation. In such a scenario, personnel can evacuate via airlocks, the flight bay, or through exterior turbolift couplings.They are are available at all exterior egress points, along with survival lockers spaced through-out the habitable portions of the starship.
Exterior windows removable for egress.These manual releases are only activated in the event of atmosphere loss, power loss, certain Red Alert conditions, and if personnel in contiguous compartments have access to environmental suits.

SECURITY PROTOCOLS
- Sensor systems and controls are restricted to command grade officers, engineering, security and science personnel on duty.
- During Yellow Alert, shut down and securing of all non resource critical experiments. Sensor systems and controls under computer surveillance.
- During Red Alert, shut down and securing of all experiments. Sensor systems and controls under restricted access as per engineering during yellow alert.(see engineering dept). Non-assigned science personnel join medical or damage control teams according to their training.
- 33% of science personnel must be cross-trained as medical technicians and another 33% must be trained as damage control personnel.
-As part of their basic duty, all ship science personnel will apply the following routine to all computer and data or sample gathering systems and items, with the assistance of the Engineering and Ops department:
Level 1 diagnostics at docking/undocking. Systems are put offline and dismantled for servicing and checking with a thorough visual, tricorder and computer testing before and after the physical work. It takes several hours to be completed by all science personnel.
Level 2 diagnostics once every shipboard day, orbital period or after a major incident. Systems are taken offline in sequence to keep ship in nominal operating status with full tricorder and computer testing after the physical servicing is done but without actual dismantling of the system, taking a full hour.
Level 3 diagnostics once every shift. A live tricorder diagnostics of each system in addition to the standard computerized one. The system is not put offline and the whole work takes fifteen minutes.
Level 4 diagnostics once every hour. A thorough computer check up taking 30 seconds to complete.
Level 5 diagnostics once every start and ending of a shift and at random during the shift. A standard computer check check taking a few seconds to complete.
- As part of their duty, the science officers will also follow the following routine:
Level 1 sensor sweep inside and outside the ship before and after each mission; this is a painstaking search of all detection systems, including hand tricorders, along the full energy and matter spectrum with a comparison to recorded data to notice any discrepancy down to the most minute detail (i.e. noting an added mass of 90kg on the ship that could betray an intruder on board). It takes a full day to complete.
Level 2 sensor sweep every day during travel; it is a detailed search of several specific data like warp trails, energy signatures, anomalous emissions, unregistered signals, mass displacement etc both from automated computer monitoring and live work with both shipboard and hand held instruments, in and out of the ship. It takes a full hour to complete.
Level 3 sensor sweep every shift; a detailed active search in and out of the ship taking a few minutes to complete with shipboard instruments.
Level 4 sensor sweep every hour; it is an active search conducted by officers inside and outside the ship taking about 30 seconds to complete with shipboard instruments. 
Level 5 sensor sweep on a constant basis; it is a computer monitoring inside and outside of the ship taking a few seconds to complete.

PROBES 



A probe is an autonomous, unmanned exploration and scanning/recording device that contains a number of general purpose or mission specific sensors and can be launched from a starship, for closer examination of objects in space when ship sensors are not enough or to risky to use.

There are nine different classes of probes, which vary in sensor types, power, and performance ratings. The spacecraft frame of a probe consists of molded duranium-tritanium and pressure-bonded lufium boronate, with sensor windows of triple layered transparent aluminum. 

Tactical will note that, with a proper warhead attached, a probe becomes a torpedo or a mine. Warp capable probes can be readily converted into standard photon or quantum torpedoes in minutes. 

Science will note that, conversely, standard torpedo casings can be used to fabricate additional probes by removing the warhead and installing sensor equipement.

Operations and  departments will note that Type VIII & IX probes can also be converted into one-man escape pods and transports for extremes situations.

Engineering will note that warp capable probes, like torpedoes, do contain a tiny quantity of antimatter, deuterium and dillithium crystals, in essence, everything needed for starship warp propulsion on a miniaturized scale. With a large enough complement of unused probes and torpedoes, a starship's depleted reserves could even be replenished enough to allow minimal warp power again. Sensor packages could also be cannibalized to bring destroyed ship sensors back online by ressourceful engineers.

The standard equipment of all nine types of probes are instruments to detect and analyze all normal EM and subspace bands, organic and inorganic chemical compounds, atmospheric constituents, and mechanical force properties. All nine types are capable of surviving a powered atmospheric entry, but only three (class III, V. VII) are designed for aerial maneuvering and soft landing. Type VIII can also be used for spatial burying, evacuation or courrier duties. 

Probes can be programmed for a specific path or targeting & following, or be real-time controlled and piloted from a starship to investigate an environment dangerous hostile or otherwise inaccessible for an away-team or vessel. They are otherwise fully autonomous.

SENSOR SYSTEMS

On probes is found the same scanning technology as a starship's long range and navigation sensors and, as on a starship, located behind the main deflector dish, to avoid sensor "ghosts" and other detrimental effects consistent with main deflector dish millicochrane static field output. Sensor pallets are located at the forward section of a probe instead of around the rim like the lateral sensors on a starship. But they still provide full coverage in all standard scientific fields, emphasising:

Astronomical phenomena

Planetary analysis

Remote life-form analysis

EM scanning

Passive neutrino scanning

Parametric subspace field stress (effective way to search for cloaked ships)

Thermal variances

Quasi-stellar material detection, analysis and sample gathering.

Warp Current sensor: This is an independent subspace graviton field-current scanner, allowing the probe or ship to track ships at high warp by locking onto the eddy currents from the threat ship's warp field, then follow the currents by using multi-model image mapping. Usually only warp capable probes have this system included, but it can be installed on all types by ship technicians.

Each sensor pallet of all classes of probes can be physically interchanged and remotely re-calibrated with any other pallet on the launching ship.



TACTICAL SENSORS 

Each sensor on a probe can be recalibrated as a tactical sensor, automatically tracking and locking onto incoming hostile vessels and reports bearing, aspect, distance, and vulnerability percentage to the tactical station on the main bridge of the launching starship. Each tactical sensor is at least 50% efficient against ECM, and operates modestly in particle flux nebulae - measuring somewhere between 40-50% accuracy on primary and secondary scans.



SPATIAL ECHOSENSOR

Developped by Chief Science officer Syntron on board the Artemis, then implemented on all Lotus Fleet vessels for the Azimuth Horizon operation, it is a recalibration of the main deflector dish to use its pulse, usually assigned for shield reinforcement, to be directed outward much as the ancient Earth sonar worked. Although unidirectional and limited to the frontal 90 degrees conical angle of the ship, it allows pinpoint detection and analysis of cosmic phenomena and even of cloaked ships or through dense nebula or artificial interference. The signal however can be as readily perceived and traced back by the target, making its tactical use worthless for cloaked vessels or any ship trying to act covertly. As it is graviton based, only massless objects can escape it's detection.

This modification has also been implemented on all auxilliary crafts, including the bridge module, and can be installed on any probe if needed.



USS ARTEMIS SPACE IMAGING FACILITIES



Completely refitted for 25th century deep space exploration, the USS Artemis uses all the benefits of its large  hull capacity to provide the most performing mobile science platform currently available for Lotus Fleet.

Two specialized sections of the ship are most noteworthty:




USS ARTEMIS STELLAR CARTOGRAPHY BAY


The entrance to the main stellar cartography bay is located on Deck 14. The lab is served by a direct Electro-Plamsa System power feed from the impulse engines. All information is directed to the bridge and can be displayed on any console or the main viewscreen, the auxilliary screen, the science station display or the auxilliary station's display. The multitask station at the front of the bridge can also access it if converted into a science console.

The Chief Science Officer's office is located next to the Stellar Cartography bay. Newly installed during the Artemis refit, it is slightly larger than a standard cargo bay and is every bit as impressive as the famous Galaxy-class Stellar Cartography Bay. When under warp or staffed by demand, the Stellar Cartography Bay is manned by one supervising officer and as many as three subordinates.

The large room contains highly-specialized holographic emitters which are capable of creating detailed representations of any region of space stored in the ship’s computer or from data transmitted from probes or other external sources. The Artemis stellar cartography room has been upgraded with the newest holographic systems, capable of rendering stellar locations in three dimensions and real time as well as provide a full range of simulation studies and observations. 

A significant portion of the computer core is dedicated to data storage and can store up to a full year of cosmology data that can later be processed at a starbase science facility.




USS ARTEMIS ASTROMETRICS LABORATORY


The Artemis also has on deck 14 an upgraded astrometrics laboratory, wich closely resembles the Intrepid-class Stellar Cartography room, exactly where the former astrometrics lab was located on the original design. 

An advancement in integrated data processing, the Astrometrics Laboratory brings with it technological refinements used first aboard the USS Voyager. Served directly by the auxiliary computer core, the Astrometrics Lab conceivably has the largest single processing potential of any single laboratory aboard a ship saves the main stellar cartography bay. 

Facilities include multiple multi-use consoles, control facilities, a large wraparound viewscreen and a centrally placed dais with a floor-mounted holo imaging emitter.With the wide range of science facilities aboard, and the sophisticated high power DSS sensor system, the Artemis state of the art astrometrics lab brings those data streams together in one singular laboratory designed as a brain trust of sorts for visual scientific study. It also features a trio of large viewscreens on each of the side walls with the consoles intended for research crew use.

All information is directed to the bridge and can be displayed on any console or the main viewscreen. When under warp or staffed by demand, the Astrometrics Laboratory is manned by one supervising officer and as many as eight subordinates and can also serves the functions of Stellar Cartography if several or large scale researches are required.

Combined with the upgraded bridge science station, in conjunction with other Science upgrades and labs, the refited USS Artemis is now rated at 120% scientific capability when compared to the Galaxy-class' 100%.

100 Stasis units are stored for general epidemic or heavy casualty scenarios, would spare parts to built rapidly in case of catastrophic situations.

Lifepods can also serve as isolation units in the direst of emergencies when current facilities aren't adequate.

Pursuant to new Medical Protocols, all Medical Facilities are equipped with holoemitters for the emergency usage of the Emergency Medical Holographic System.

Also pursuant to recent developments in holotechnology; holoemitters are distributed throughout the ship for medical and technical purposes. Safety protocols are hardwired into the system and cannot be bypassed aboard the ship anywhere.

The Ship's Chief Medical Officer's private office is on Deck 7, near main Medical. The office has standard furnishings and is decorated to the CMO's preference. Also in the office are a personal viewscreen, a computer display, and a replicator.

There is an individual private examination room furnished with chairs and examination table for one on one examinations.

Counseling Resources
The Ship's Counselor's private office is on Deck 7, near main Medical. The office has standard furnishings and is decorated to the Counselor's preference. Also in the office are a personal viewscreen, a computer display, and replicator.

There is an individual therapy room furnished with chairs and couch for one on one sessions. There is also a large, group therapy room, consisting of several couches and chairs, located adjacent to the Counselor's office.

If a crewmember suffers a psychotic episode, isolation from the crew is done in sickbay, in the isolation unit, or in the intensive care units, determined by bed availability. Confinement to quarters is a preferred option to imprisonment unless the case represents a threat to ship and crew. The brig is used only in the gravest cases and/or when there is no other room available.

All in all, the Artemis medical bay looks nothing like the original design of the , as it had been utterly destroyed decades ago prior to the recent refit. It now looks much more like the medical facilities found on the most modern ship designs, with equipement to match. It also act like an "auxilliary control room" regarding life support systems and the EMH grid of the ship, which are primarily controled from the new and innovative Bridge CMO Command Chair on deck 1.

SECURITY PROTOCOLS
- All medical data of ship personnel, down to the subatomic level, will be recorded and updated for each transport on or off the ship. Computer will compare recorded data to beaming data and keep in transit the subject until identity assessed before rematerializing, either on the pad, sickbay, back to its point of origin, dispersed in space or in the brig as appropriately determined by ship security chief and ship CMO with either First officer or captain authority.
- Decontamination protocols always in effect with each transport.
- Decontamination and/or medical examination performed for each boarding entity as judged appropriate by CMO under either First officer or captain authority.
- During yellow alert, medical teams stand ready to move out to treat casualties anywhere on the ship. All EMH on standby. Site to site transport prioritized to CMO authority.
- During red alert, all evacuation protocols on standby; all EMHs activated; automated computer lock on to ship personnel combadges for immediate transport to sickbay in case of serious injuries.
-As part of their basic duty, all ship medical personnel will apply the following routine:
Level 1 Examinationat docking/undocking. Full medical and psychological examination of ship's personnel, taking a full day to be completed by all the medical personnel and backed up by EMHs for the entire 750 crewmembers. Refusal is ground enough for immediate dismissal from ship's complement.
Level 2 Examination once every shipboard day or after every boarding/uboarding, A routine tricorder check up from all shipboard EMH of all crewmembers, taking an hour to complete.
Level 3 Examination once every shift.A computer check up taking half an hour to complete, comparing sensor data to recorded medical files of every crewmember.
Level 4 Examination once every hour. a thorough internal sensor sweep to locate any contaminant, organic or inorganic, on board the ship or on the outside hull, taking fifteen minutes to complete.
Level 5 Examination once every start and ending of a shift and at random during the shift. A computer shipwide assessment of crew health condition through internal sensors, taking a few minutes to complete. This is also used to detect any possible presence of alien or unrecorded lifeform on board, from bacteria to intruders.
- Emergency medical transporter code Omega Lambda 3 prioritize immediate site to site transport of a patient with the CMO to sickbay emergency ward and alert it for incoming casualty needing immediate treatment. The captain has asked to modify the designation to "Code Sage" for faster, easier use and to honor the previous CMO who devised it.

EMERGENCY MEDICAL OPERATIONS

Starfleet Policy and Medical Emergency Operations requires that at least 40% of the officers and crew are cross-trained to serve as Emergency Medical Technicians, to serve as triage specialists, medics, and other emergency medical functions with non-medical emergency operations in engineering or tactical departments.

The recreation deck and lounge on deck 15 and the VIP/guest quarters on deck 2 can serve as emergency intensive care wards, within 30 minutes with maximum engineering support.

The shuttle bay has 5 mobile hospitals deployable either on the deck, or transported to Cargo Bay 2 and 3 for emergency overflow triage centers.

Cargo Bay 3 also provides for the emergency atmosphere recalibration to type H,K, or L environments for non-humanoid casualties.* All facilities are equipped with full Bio-hazard suites.

All medical personnel are tested for expertise and efficiency once every 6 months. All medical emergency assistance ship complement are tested once every 12 months.
