This is something I've found is useful if you are really behind and want to catch up on RP, but don't have the time in your busy schedule to just sit for hours to read the RP off of the computer screen.
Normally I wouldn't recommend this -- it is much more pleasant to actually read it yourself (and your brain actually processes it better when you are doing the reading as opposed to being read to).
However, very long passages can be a strain on your eyes and printing it out can waste a lot of paper.
So, recently when I was very behind on the RP, I compiled everything I needed to catch up on by copy/pasting the text into a Word Document. Then I emailed the document to my smartphone. I discovered that for the program I'm going to reference to work, you need to save the Word Document with the option checked to "Maintain compatibility with previous versions of Word", as shown in this image: http://tinyurl.com/c3s6l7z
Then I saved the RP document to my phone and went to the Google Play Store (note: I'm not sure if this available for iPhone and Windows) and downloaded the "Office Documents Viewer" by Joerg Jahnke.
Once you use this to open your document, press the context menu key and select "Read Aloud...", and just like in Star Trek my handheld computer read me a story!
Unlike Star Trek, the voice is not the lovely Majel Barret's. It is robotic and obnoxious and she can't say contractions correctly ("didn't" becomes "didunn-tee"), which is why I don't suggest doing this regularly, but I was able to get through several hours' worth and was able to enjoy all my fellow Fleetmates' wonderful contributions during my commute just like a "book on tape"!
Have your phone/tablet read RP to you
